Southend Pier will soon be blanketed in 110,000 handmade poppies this November - each one knitted or crocheted by people from across the world in a powerful act of remembrance. From 5–16 Nov 2025, the world’s longest pleasure pier will become a 1.3-mile sea of red, with every poppy symbolising gratitude and reflection. Councillor Matt Dent said the response had been “truly heartwarming”, while the Royal British Legion will be on site raising funds for the annual Poppy Appeal. Each knitted or crocheted poppy has been created by crafters, schools and community groups from across the UK and beyond - a huge act of remembrance and unity.
