@DeborahKlee #FriSalon Q1 Hi! I'm Beth Hudson, fantasy author from the American Midwest.
Tweet chats -- I've engaged with #FriSalon, of course, but also a bit with #WorldbuilderChat (which at present isn't operating).

Tell me about a special weapon or armor used by one of your characters. Does it have a story behind it? Any lore or legends? Cool design? Is it magical? Or has it been through so many battles that it's impressive it still functions?
There are creatures that form in the Burbling Chaos that are referred to as demons. Some of the more intelligent ones will try to corrupt others, but most arenโt subtle about sowing chaos and destruction. #WorldbuilderChat #WritingQ #QuestionCrew #amwritingfantasy
#QuestionCrew #WritingQ #WorldbuilderChat I'm just going to do one question for today. ๐
Does your fictional world have anything akin to what we'd call "demons"? Evil creatures, or at least morally dubious creatures stereotyped as evil? Or who persuade mortals to commit evil?

Due to the graphic nature of this scene, I am placing a content warning below. Reader discretion is strongly advised.

The Valor Hall only takes those selected to be Valor Knights or Wizards, but they come from across social strata & classes. Any appropriately-aged male can apply, & while most come from nobility or merchant families, SOME have come from farms or even slums!
@Kiraofthewind1 #WorldbuilderChat Q3. In the Gragiyan Empire it varies depending on the province. In most places education is for the nobility only. Schools are often specialist such as the Atarai military academy in Arhia. Arhians are all literate and have a basic knowledge of history.
@Kiraofthewind1 #WorldbuilderChat Q1. In the Gragiyan Empire most of the schools are for the nobility only. In the military province of Arhia, all citizens are taught to read and write as well as some history. Most girls are home school by a tutor. Apprenticeships are also common.
#WorldbuilderChat From MoLaB. Amiere talking to Cohaku about his school experience.

@Kiraofthewind1 #WorldbuilderChat A3: Education is designed to be free and accessible. I imagine some parts are mandatory but meant to help broaden critical thinking. It's also a system built to adjust to a person's needs, given that some folks process things differently.

Revorin and Deikiron, who appear as minor characters, are Magic tutors โ they help magicians hone their gifts and control their magic. Nakotan is also a student at the Magic Centre through his books (somewhat to his embarrassment).
@Kiraofthewind1 Education is one of the things that's for all. There are better and worse schools, but everyone can pursue an education or take a course on something they're interested in.

The main emphasis is on reading, writing, math, and language. There are also nature classes taught, to learn about the natural world. Magicians will also often attend Magic Centres, to learn to control their magic.
#WorldbuilderChat The merchants of knowledge are somewhat like traveling teachers, so Calinthe would qualify for this, I think.
Amiere's kids are all in school. There's a Mind church in Steena Village, but due to the small population, classes contain kids within a 3-year range.
#WorldbuilderChat Q4 Do you have any characters involved in your fictional worldโs education system? (As students, teachers, staff, what-have-you).

#WorldbuilderChat In Aloutia, education is mandatory for EVERYONE. Also, they had the Greed Wars a while ago that *kinda* did away with class-based schooling, though there are still some schools where they will put the kids they deem 'smarter' than average.
#WorldbuilderChat Q3 Can anyone be educated in your fictional worldโs schools? Or are they only open to certain groups of people?

The Nation has very different schools for the two sexes. Boys go to a rather regular school with more drill exercises until they're 18 or 20 depending on the department, girls are more or less locked up in a Wife School from 12 until they marry (after 18).
#WorldbuilderChat Q1 Are there educational institutions (schools, academies, apprenticeships etc.) in your fictional world?*
*can apply to the real world if that's your setting, but these qs are for fictional stories

#WorldbuilderChat There's an academy in Monoceros where elite Mind elementals and Mind Godbloods go, where some of the courses include Demon Summoning. The Godbloods can take courses to teach them tricks with magic.
#WorldbuilderChat Q2 Does your fictional worldโs schools emphasize any specific topic?* Are there any subjects taught that we donโt have in the real world?
*If writing about the real world, does your school offer unique courses?
