Finally, instead of looking back at #WSDOT20, we're looking ahead. Mazama the Avalanche Rescue Goat - stylish in her shades and hat - and her sister Maya are hanging in their loft ready to bring in 2021. They - and we - wish you all a safe #NewYearsEve!

Finally, to cap off our look back at 2020... You heard of Elf on a shelf, then we gave you, Cow on a Plow!
Looking back we had some fun throughout the year & can't wait to see what 2021 brings. One thing is for certain, we appreciate all of you who follow us! Thank you! #WSDOT20

Just this week, @wsferries opened our first new terminal in 40 years with the opening of the beautiful new facility in Mukilteo! #WSDOT20

November saw about the naming of our newest Tow Plow - "The Big Leplowski"! You submitted name suggestions and then voted for it! Thank you! Maybe in 2021, we can get @TheJeffBridges (when safe) to join us for a ride-along. #WSDOT20
We will be naming the 3rd sometime in 2021.

Earlier this month, two of our @wsdot_tacoma maintenance workers teamed with @wastatepatrol to rescue an injured owl on SR 19. A small story of kindness and compassion that I think we were all hungry for this year. #WSDOT20

In October we safely celebrated the opening of the Sanpoil Bridge on SR 21 in Ferry County. The bridge washed out in 2017 after flooding washed out the south roadway approach. A WWII Bailey Bridge was temporarily used to keep traffic moving. #WSDOT20

In the past 3 months our @wsferries crews have been involved in 7 life-saving rescues. They all receive extensive emergency response training and we're so proud of them for stepping up when needed the most! #WSDOT20

On Labor Day we saw a widespread dust, wind, and fire event. One point I-90, US 395, US 2, and SR 26 closed. East/west travel across the state was at a standstill for several hours as over 570 lane miles closed. Other closures included SR 23, 263, 21, 261, 28, and SR 25. #WSDOT20

In late September @wsdot_sw teamed with @OregonDOT on a major 8-day project to replace components of the I-5 Interstate Bridge. It involved a full closure of NB I-5. Huge thanks to all who adjusted how they travel to help make this project a success! #WSDOT20

The story of the first half of September was unfortunately fires, which closed highways throughout the state. We can't begin to say THANK YOU enough to all the first responders who helped during those scary few weeks. #WSDOT20

Things then got a little rocky in June as crews performed rock slope scaling on US 97A near the Knapps Tunnel. Rock scaling was done to reduce the risk of future rock falls. #WSDOT20

Wowza! Footage from the work on US 97A definitely tells the story about the need for this project. Weekday closures continue 8 am - 5 pm.

Thank you for your patience as we get this important work accomplished.
On Aug. 3, @wsdot_tacoma opened the state's first diverging diamond interchange at Marvin Road in Lacey. Here's a look: https://t.co/41Oie6Xtpg #WSDOT20

On May 18, some wild weather nearly caused a funnel cloud to touch down near Pullman. Our crew at the maintenance shed on SR 270 capture the picture overlooking the town. #WSDOT20

On June 10, a rockslide that eventually brought down more than 1,000 cubic yards of debris blocked SR 20 near Rockport. A detour was in place for more than a month as contractors worked to clear the highway and repair and stabilize the hillside. #WSDOT20

Looking back to late April, things got dusty quite literally in the town of Dusty. A dust storm blew through the area on SR 26 and crews had to close the roadway due to poor visibility. #WSDOT20

On May 18, we recognized the 40th anniversary of the eruption of Mount St. Helens with a story looking back at our role in the recovery. https://t.co/tRI4iEgsDK #WSDOT20

In early May, one of our @wsdot_tacoma bridge maintenance workers teamed with our friends @wastatepatrol to rescue several ducklings stuck in a drain on Tacoma Narrows Bridge! The story: https://t.co/w3I5jrLiWF #WSDOT20

On April 27, our cameras captured the first elk using the new I-90 wildlife overcrossing east of @SnoqualmiePass. Since then we've seen a big rise in the number of animals using the crossing, including larger groups of elk and the first bobcat! #WSDOT20

In early April our Yakima-area maintenance group teamed with Yakima Valley Emergency Management to deliver ventilators to Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital. Super proud of the work our crews have done & continue to do to help during COVID-19 response. #WSDOT20
