A distant view of Yeavering Bell on the edge of the Cheviot Hills. On its top is an Iron Age hillfort - the largest hillfort in Northumberland. ๐ธ My own. #HillfortsWednesday #Yeavering #Northumberland

What is your favourite artefact from our collection?
Our Collection is an extraordinary amalgamation of items found at #Yeavering and nearby, with others from the NE and the rest of England that show just how rich the culture of the #Northumbrian court was. #anglosaxonhistory
First visit to the new @AdGefrin visitor centre.
Beautiful building, interesting interactives, amazing artefacts and Hope-Taylorโs original illustrations. Nice!

The #Yeavering excavations, were a part of an #AngloSaxon โGolden Age,โ that focused on international trade & cultural exchange. These excavations & their history remain largely unknown. However, thatโs all about to change.... #AdGefrin opens autumn 22

Winter walk in foothills of the #Cheviots. First stop beautiful church at Kirknewton, resting place of 19th C reformer Josephine Butler โฆ@jbjcr_durhamโฉ then uphill to the hill fort at #Yeavering Bell, avoiding any feral goats but rewarded with views of Cheviot

What a view!

This will be worth keeping an eye on - #Yeavering is such a fascinating #EarlyMedieval site, in a completely magical setting. I still remember the chills I had standing in the grass there, in low Autumn light, a lifetime ago it seems...I can't wait to see what might turn up! ๐
New episode? Yeah, it's delayed by a week. Why?
Honestly, I'm enjoying writing it so much that I'm going to indulge myself and bring you all the detailed musings I've not had the chance to while working on the show and studying.

Check out this guy - this goat head carving by artist Eddie Robb adorns gateposts at #AdGefrin, an #AngloSaxon royal township situated between #Kirknewton and #Yeavering in #Northumberland. I snapped him on #research travels in 2013 #FindsFriday #writer #histfic #medievaltwitter

Today is a very pleasing sort of research and reading day. Oh, and occasional planning of seeds for the garden... ignoring the cold and snow out the window

Maelmin (Millfield), the site of the palace which succeeded #Yeavering and home to an interesting "heritage trail" interpreting the site. In shot is a reconstruction of an Anglo-Saxon house (image Phil Cope).

Re-use of prehistoric monuments/places in seventh century found at #Dunadd, #Iona, #Yeavering, #Heavenfield. Dichotomy between "pagan" and "Christian" is a later invention. This is Duddo - there is no evidence Aidan ever came here but there is no evidence he didn't.

@heritage_hidden @KirknewtonEH27 @alnwickgazette You're standing on the edge of some other amazing hidden heritage #Yeavering Although some would argue it's not hidden ๐
