Yellow Fire Morning Update
Containment: 55%
Acres: 14,208
Fireline construction continued on Wednesday. Single Engine air tankers arrived early Wednesday morning and made water drops throughout the day. Large air tankers arrived just before noon as fire activity picked up due to a large increase in wind speed making the fire move rapidly to the south. In mid-afternoon, the fire began to impact the RM 1061 road. Although fireline on the east flank of the fire had been tied in and secured, forward progression of the fire had not been stopped. At approximately 5 PM on Wednesday, Fire activity was still high with a high rate of spread. The Fire crossed 1061 and grew to a 10-acre slop-over that was stopped by heavy equipment and engines. At approximately 8 PM on Wednesday, Fire behavior had decreased. Crews only had approximately 600 yards of fireline left to construct. Engine crews were on patrol status. Two successful firing operations had been performed on the west side of the fire.
A voluntary evacuation order from the Amarillo Office of Emergency Management is in place for Valle de Oro and Boys Ranch. Volunteer fire departments performed structure protection at Boys Ranch.

Weather
A Red Flag Warning in now in effect from 11 AM Thursday morning to 8 PM tonight. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create favorable weather for rapid fire growth and spread. Avoid activities that promote open flames and sparks. Any fires that develop will have the potential to spread rapidly.
Winds are expected to be from the southwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
Relative humidity is expected to be as low as 8 percent.
Temperature is expected to be in the 70s
