I have the basic integer code gen operators coded up for the #AArch64 code generator. It works on trivial tests. I resurrected the old #Zortech C test suite, which has a lot of gnarly tests in it. The first test compiles, but promptly crashes with "Illegal instruction". Compiling with the -vasm shows the instructions generated, and sure enough, there are 3 #x86_64 instructions in the 50 instructions generated, and one nonsense bit pattern! Here's a section of the output: 0028: 52 80 0F E3 mov w3,#0x7F 002c: 39 00 03 A3 strb w3,[x29] 0030: 00 00 00 8A udf #0x8A 0034: 00 00 00 FE udf #0xFE 0038: 12 40 1C E7 12401ce7 003c: 00 00 0F BF udf #0xFBF 0040: 9A C7 08 41 udiv x1,x2,x7 Oops. 30, 34, and 3c are the x86 instructions, and 38 is what the heck is that! A lot of people wonder why I built into the compiler a switch to disassemble the generated code as it is generated. It's already paid for itself in saved debugging time again and again. #compilers
