I have deleted my previous post where I stated that the mummy displayed in the Egyptian Museum is the Pharaoh of Musa عليه السلام.

After seeing the post made by @YusufAsunmogejo whom I personally regard as my shaykh because of his deep understanding of Islamic knowledge, I have changed my position.

He cited the explanation of Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymeen رحمه الله, who explained that Qur’an 10:92 refers to Allah bringing Pharaoh’s body out after his drowning so that the Children of Israel could see him and be certain that he had actually died, as some of them doubted that he had perished.

This explanation is also transmitted from Ibn ʿAbbas رضي الله عنهما and other Salaf, as recorded by Ibn Kathir رحمه الله.

Al-Tabari رحمه الله likewise records reports from Ibn ʿAbbas and others with this understanding.

Therefore, I no longer consider it correct to confidently identify the mummy displayed today as the Pharaoh of Musa.

The Qur’an tells us that Allah brought Pharaoh’s body out as a sign and lesson, but it does not identify the modern museum mummy as that body.

So I am correcting my earlier claim and I have deleted that post.

We should be willing to change our position when we discover that our previous understanding was too certain.

Knowledge is more important than defending our ego.

May Allah forgive my mistake, increase us in beneficial knowledge, and guide us to the truth. Amin
