Q-do you think @POTUS@JoeBiden should push through the 19th Amendment ERA - Equal Rights Amendment before he leaves office? Why or why not?
The ERA would guarantee equal legal rights for all American citizens, regardless of sex.
I am in support.
Ken requires recipients to “‘immediately permit’ the attorney general to inspect its records, without an opportunity for precompliance judicial review of the request — in violation of the right to freedom from unreasonable search or seizure” that’s granted by our Constitution.
State of Texas Public Education Funding
1.Per-pupil funding has not been raised since 2019.
2.Public schools have experienced an 18% funding DECREASE in inflation-adjusted dollars.
3.A Legislative Budget Board (LBB) recent report showed public schools received $11,101 in maintenance and operations funding per student in the 2019-2020 school year from state and local sources.
https://t.co/Uo074TKGzi a comparison of constant dollars (inflation-adjusted), Texas public schools currently receive around $9,074 per student for the 2024-25 school year.
Hey @UNTsocial -
I would have paid extra for a “senior” parking pass just for alumnus who decided to come back for another degree.
My undergrad self would have been surprised to learn that I struggle to find commuter parking around the “Texas Pickup” this semester. 😕🦅
@tra_hall Local school boards make better decisions about the start date of school rather than politicians who are listening to corporate donors who have revenue reasons to want a certain start date. The power grid needs to be strong enough to support demand of a growing economy.
While you're watching Texas schools struggle with inadequate resources: Anyone who tells you @GregAbbott_TX didn't hold school funding hostage for private school vouchers is lying to you. Here's the video of Abbott spelling out what he was doing.
School districts across Texas face budget cuts while the state under @GregAbbott_TX sits on a record budget surplus. The Texas Constitution *requires the state* to pay for public education. Don't forget Abbott held school funding hostage for vouchers and he's still doing it.
.@GovAbbott is amassing & hoarding your property taxes (4x the average surplus!) for a massive cash pay out to the wealthy & well-connected via “taxpayer-funded vouchers” while schools shutter & districts raise taxes to pay teachers…
… & he has the nerve to brag about it. smh
@ForrestViews@pastors4txkids@MidlothianISD@WaxahachieISD Great question!
Why does he think private school kids deserve better than public schools?
Why did he think private school parents deserve to pick their accountability and not believe public school parents deserve the same thing?
CenterPoint should not buy more generators. Customers should be reimbursed for the $50 million in profits & $800 million spent on "mobile" generators the utility couldn't use. To charge ratepayers even more for generators adds insult to injury. #txlege

"None of those generators have been put in service since CenterPoint first began renting them in 2021." There is a public comment period open now on these unusable $800 million generators. A public hearing will be held if requested by Thursday. #txlege 1/

Budget buster:
Arizona’s school voucher experiment has precipitated a budget meltdown. The state this year faced a $1.4 billion budget shortfall, much of which was a result of the new voucher spending

So, legislators will need even more help with the creation of new laws and re-evaluation of old laws.
Who do legislators normally turn to when they need input - agencies and lobbyists. Lobbyists can tip after a law is passed.
I'm not a lawyer; these are my interpretations.
Long 🧵
Bad week in the Supreme Court for regular Americans.
Snyder-bribery
Chevron-federal agencies
Companies/lobbyists/the uber-wealthy can bribe Congress/State officials/local officials/judges after the fact when they create a detailed law/rule that benefits the company.
🧵Issue with overturning Chevron is that fed/state legislatures nor courts have the expertise to create detailed, unambiguous laws.
(ex - Congress doesn't know enough about FDA content to create a law that describes which food borne illnesses are important and which aren't).
It’s such strange times when @TheOnion continues to be out Onion-ed by the zealots.
He doesn’t understand the judicial system yet has been tried on bribery charges 3 times!
