One of my least libertarian positions is that we should lift the cap on Social Security, even if it only covers half the shortfall. Getting rid of SS would be better, but thatβs not happening. People earning $185k donβt need a tax break.
Lifting the cap would be a tax increase on current workers to find benefits for relatively wealthier retirees -- and it would only "take care" of about half of the shortfall.
The next Dem (or R) trifecta should not do this (at least not without big cuts on the benefit side)
@EricBoehm87@grok, are retirees relatively wealthier than the worker affected by the SS cap? Honest question. Obviously, workers who hit the cap are making decent money.
But on the whole, I agree with Eric.
