PRESS STATEMENT
17th May, 2026
The continued silence and inaction of the Government regarding the pressing concerns of the Kuki people has become deeply alarming and unacceptable. Despite the Charter of Demands submitted to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 14th May 2026, no meaningful response or concrete action has been initiated. Equally distressing is the failure of the authorities to rescue the innocent Kuki individuals taken hostage in Senapati.
In light of these grave developments, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), after thorough deliberation, has resolved to extend the ongoing 48-hour shutdown for another 48 hours, effective from midnight of 17th May 2026. This decision reflects the collective pain, frustration, and determination of the Kuki people in seeking justice, safety, and accountability.
Kuki Inpi Manipur conveys its heartfelt appreciation to all federating units, Civil Society Organisations, and the Kuki-Zo public for their unwavering solidarity, cooperation, and support during this difficult period. Their unity and resilience continue to strengthen the collective struggle for justice and dignity. All federating units are urged to fully enforce and support the extended shutdown as a united call for urgent government intervention.
While medical emergencies and essential humanitarian services shall remain exempted, the public is strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the shutdown period considering the prevailing security situation.
Kuki Inpi Manipur reiterates that the continued indifference shown by the authorities towards such serious humanitarian and security concerns is both unfortunate and condemnable. The Government must act immediately, responsibly, and decisively before the situation deteriorates further.

🚨#Manipur#Breaking#Emergency 🚨
The brutal physical assaults on Kuki Women in the hands of @crpfindia@BSF_India is reprehensible & shows their leanings towards the secessionist meitei. They allowed meiteis to cross the BUFFER ZONES & attacked us. And assault our women now.
The Central Forces, whom we had trusted to protect us from Meitei violence, have begun to commit egregious acts against our community. This betrayal of trust is deeply disturbing and underscores the need for immediate action to ensure our safety and well-being.@ndtv@the_hindu
📍Saibol, Manipur: The ongoing brutality against Kuki women is a violation of their basic human dignity and must be stopped immediately. Central forces are enabling Meitei terrorism by targeting Kuki women. @PMOIndia@HMOIndia, hold them accountable! @rashtrapatibhvn@UN_Women
