Kuki student group seeks impartial probe into church leaders’ killings in Manipur

On Friday, May 15, a gathering of more than 200 Kuki community members, students, church officials and supporters, convened at Secunderabad’s Centenary Baptist Church to pay tribute to three prominent Kuki church leaders from Manipur who were ambushed and killed during the Manipur conflict.

“These pastors were not just spiritual guides but beacons of hope in troubled times. Their senseless killing demands accountability … No community should live in fear of such targeted violence,” said Mangpi Haokip, vice president of KSO-H.
Mangpi told TNM that many media houses were choosing not to report on the situation in the Northeast, leading to various religious groups and student bodies taking up different forms of agitation and demonstrations across the country.
Mangpi asserted that the basic demand of the organisation was for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over the case. “We want impartial investigation,” he said.

Fresh concern has emerged over the fate of 11 Kuki individuals reported missing after being taken hostage, following a disturbing social media post allegedly shared by a user identified as “Ajoy Rephung,” who described himself as a “Kaccha Naga individual.”

In the post, Ajoy Rephung claimed that the 11 hostages, whom he referred to as “Burmese refugee,” were “already dead and their bodies are decomposed.” The post further carried a chilling warning: “this time you will learn an unforgettable lesson in life.”

These claims remain unverified and no official authority has confirmed the whereabouts or condition of the missing individuals. Yet such statements have intensified fear, anxiety and outrage among the families and community members still waiting for answers.

The continued uncertainty surrounding the 11 missing Kuki individuals demands immediate attention, an independent investigation and urgent action from the concerned authorities. Every effort must be made to establish the truth, ensure accountability and protect innocent civilians from further harm.

Silence cannot replace justice and unanswered disappearances cannot be ignored.

The alleged abduction of innocent Kuki civilians is a grave matter that cannot be ignored. Reports pointing towards the involvement of Saloni Tony must be taken seriously and investigated without delay. If he is innocent, a fair investigation will reveal the truth. But if found guilty, immediate arrest and strict legal action must follow.

From the reported intimidation of Kuki women in Hengbung Kuki Village to the alleged role in the illegal abduction of Kuki civilians in Senapati, the growing pattern of fear and violence has deeply disturbed the people. Such acts threaten peace, justice and the safety of innocent civilians.

We urge @manipur_police and @NIA_India to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into these serious allegations and ensure that everyone responsible is held accountable. Justice delayed is justice denied.

That, these were soldiers of Christ, men whose entire existence was devoted to promoting peace, love, and the word of God makes this loss all the more devastating.

A viral video circulating online allegedly shows armed Meitei militants prior to the attack that claimed the lives of three pastors from the Thadou Baptist Association.
Loose translation from the video: “We are in the hills on an important mission. We will not reveal the details now. Hill or valley, we will carry out what we have planned.”
If verified, these developments expose a deeply disturbing security threat that cannot be ignored. The Government of India must conduct an impartial and thorough investigation, dismantle all militant networks operating in the region, and ensure accountability for those involved in violence against innocent civilians.
