I haven't been too active on this, but lots of updates for the lab website: https://t.co/76ypTeSXUX
Most importantly, our first PhD student, Erik Iverson, successfully defended his PhD!
Here's a pic where Joseph's foot looks way too big:
Journals when I'm reviewing for them: it's been 2 weeks, we need your reviews NOW!
Same journals when I submit: yeah, we know its been 4 months, there's not much we can do, lol

Bittersweet to return to Auburn University after 10 years to give a seminar honoring my late PhD adviser Scott Santos. Great to see old friends and make new ones, and I'm glad to know the dept is honoring Scott's legacy as a super scientist and mentor.

Excited to be co-organizing a symposium @SICB 2025 w/@ummat_s on sexual selection and energetics. If you're interested in this (even broadly), consider joining us in Atlanta and registering to present your work at a complimentary session!

I'm recruiting PhD students to work on mitochondrial bioenergetics. Check out my talk from #Evol2024 on HGT of an alternative mito pathway

We do other cool mito evolution and physiology, plz get in touch!
Our lab is at Evolution 2024 in Montreal!
Come here about the role of mitochondrial evolution in aging, environmental adaptation, speciation, selfishness, mutation processes, and coevolution in 6 talks and posters given by undergrads, grads, postdocs, and even me!
We thought, "Surely, if you have two very different mtDNAs, nuclear DNA will only coevolve with one of them." Work led by @Texas_Mussels shows how wrong we were:

Congratulations to this year’s finalists for the Hamilton Award for Outstanding Graduate Student Presentation! Join us June 27 at 1:30 pm EDT to hear this series of excellent talks as part of the virtual Evolution meeting! Register here: https://t.co/Z42flAJZI9 @Evol_mtg@SSEgrad
Our lab is in Hawaii again! This time our anchialine research program is geared towards shrimp genetics, gut microbiomes, microbial ecology, and eDNA. New grad students are seeing the habitats for the first time and we're having a blast with local collaborators. 🤙🦐
Anytime I talk about extreme rate variation in plant mtDNA evolution, people ask why some lineages evolve fast. @KendraZwonitzer took that personally. Her paper out today @PNAS offers some evidence for one possibility.
