Did you know?
September 16, 1941 - 85 years ago - @UTAustin chemists discovered and named folic acid after distilling *four tons* (yes, 8,000 pounds!) of spinach. Wheelbarrows full of the leafy greens made their way to the lab in Welch Hall.
What starts here . . . 🤘
Now you see it … now you don’t.
Researchers stumbled onto a greener way to recycle objects made of pDCPD, used in everything from vehicle bumpers to construction equipment to chemical storage tanks.

Last week in Oslo, Allan MacDonald received the @KavliPrize for Nanoscience. A physicist at @UTAustin, he was honored for helping establish the field of twistronics. Read more: https://t.co/Ui8ILuIf95
What if cancer’s favorite fuel could become its weakness? 🧬
UT Austin researchers developed an experimental drug that pushes cancer cells to burn more sugar while blocking their backup fuel source.
The early results are promising, and could point to a new approach to cancer treatment.

New studies find COVID pandemic impacts on children were not as severe as originally feared. Most children’s health, learning, social development and well-being recovered substantially over time. Full story: https://t.co/DEQdkuYsYn @UTAustin@livas_stein
Until recently, researchers couldn’t see two different chemical forms of copper inside living cells at the same time. Sensors developed in Yi Lu’s lab at @TexasScience now make that possible.
Through MINT, Lu, Boyi Gan and collaborators at @UTAustin and @UTMDAnderson are using those tools to study how copper and iron may contribute to resistance to radiation treatments. The team aims to build on this preclinical work toward more selective ways of targeting therapy-resistant cancer cells while preserving healthy ones.
