Miss you all but I haven’t been around bc (on top of still trying to manage health) most of my digital spaces energy is going towards agitating for Palestinian freedom.
I’ll likely be back (and I feel bad vanishing) but in the meantime if any mutuals want my IG @, DM me.
Extra struggling with the ableism coming out re the finale (creators oblivious to the harmful tropes, fans dismissive of critiques, &c) because of how worn out I am in year 4 of this pandemic. 1/
Also look. I don’t want to keep bringing covid conversations into this space, it’s my escapism corner. But we cannot discuss ableism without discussing covid, so here we are.
Please wear a mask in public spaces.
Please get the new vaccine (if you’re able).
Please care.
I’m not here to get granular. I don’t have the energy to wade in.
I just want to name the context in which many of us disabled people are living.
Because it (eugenics) is a context a lot of people have chosen to ignore.
/end
So no, I don’t have a much grace to give people making and defending ableist choices.
Because whether they realize it or not (most def don’t) what’s happening here is a reflection of what’s been happening on a societal scale, acutely for 4 years but ultimately for centuries. 6/
I've seen some back and forth about the importance of disability in Izzy's storyline, and there are some things I would like to unpack. It's true that this is a show where we see a number of characters with disabilities of various kinds. However, Izzy's story is still unique
Lol since some jackass made a burner to yell at people for calling what happened between Ed and Izzy domestic violence, let's chat. Domestic violence is often used to refer to intimate partner violence but that's not all it refers to--Ed and Izzy cohabitate. The ship is home.
