Players must also align proper race tactics with their horses genetic traits, preferences and learned skills. It is also helpful to consider the likely tactics of their competitors in establishing primary and secondary tactics for the race.

These strategic blueprints encompass the three classic racing tactics: front-running, stalking, and closing. Horses will work to achieve their primary tactic, but will fall back to their contingency tactic if their primary one is unachievable.

Choosing the right tactic requires knowledge of horse racing dynamics. Mastering the selection of race tactics is a crucial skill for players aiming to succeed in the game.
