"Missouri House Republicans voted to defund all of the state’s public libraries, in a proposed $45.6 billion state budget that will soon move to a vote in the GOP-controlled state Senate"

For @hakaimagazine, I wrote about beach dogs, which are both shockingly harmful to coastal ecosystems *and* a wildly contentious political issue. Note: I am not w/out sin when it comes to letting my little killer roam free!
Let the angry emails commence.

The obsession with GDP helps evade questions of distribution while promoting infinite expansion on a finite planet.
Only in the warped reality of our current growth obsessed economic model is expansion without end seen as a virtue. In biology, it's called a cancer.
Found an amazing family of Northern Saw-whet Owls this weekend in Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest! Here's 1 of 3 fledglings, photographed from the trail. #NorthernSawWhetOwl
Hey #BirdTwitter! Just realized I’m running dangerously low on #bird tshirts & I want to support #research & #CommunityScience organizations featuring awesome artists with my purchases. Please suggest birdy attire! My 1st one will be from @hmanahawkwatch https://t.co/p9bLBrmhQP
After feeling bad about a very muddy work week, NE Wyoming is now offering free* power car washes to all residents! Current WY residents don’t even need to move their cars!
*Clean cars guaranteed for 8 hours. NE Wyoming is not responsible for future muddy work weeks.
Suddenly Swainson’s Hawks are trickling across WY’s sage-steppe! The last raptors to arrive in spring, they get the last pick of scarce nesting trees. In the next few weeks they’ll pack in b/w all the other tree nesters & cobble together flimsy little nests w/ amazing efficiency!
Field biologists are lucky to enjoy the “field house”. The best thing is the random accessories striving to be homely…washcloths for oven mitts, the wrong size coffee filters & a shortage of quality pillows. Love ‘em & leave ‘em; but always leave ‘em cleaner than you found ‘em!
@ecologistash I had a job offer for a summer tech position revoked - I was told explicitly it was because of having a service dog. They claimed her presence would be too problematic even though the job was located in a national rec area where pet dogs are allowed. 🙃
@AnEtchabear I was chased & treed by a female moose in B. Columbia. Though scary it was right out of a cartoon, & probably hilarious had anyone seen it 😂 2x around a tree, then I darted for another tree & climbed it a quickly as I could. Moose interrupted bird surveys more than 🐻 that year!
@ShannonSkalos Struggled w/ this in Toronto where only those selected for interviews were contacted; folks always leaned on the “busy HR line”. It’s so demoralizing & reduces transparency in hiring. Big fan of “all serious applicants get a response”; you’re basically doing part of HR’s job!
@travis_devault @VultureVagabond We were just discussing this the other day, especially as it related to minute-by-minute estimates over variable terrain.
