New war, old partnership.
America knows who it can trust in Iraq, Syria, and, now, Iran.
The Kurds have earned America’s full and enduring respect. Congress must codify that respect with recognition and special consideration for military protection, economic development, and visa programs.
If activating the Kurdish militias against the Iranian regime is the decision, the U.S. must not waiver under pressure from regional capitals nor abandon Kurdish partners. “Temporary and transactional” will not suffice, this time.

Upon information and belief, Iran or its proxies are planning a sneak attack on U.S. troops and/or assets in Iraq. If this happens, Iran will pay a very heavy price, indeed!
I join President @realDonaldTrump in wishing a happy, healthy, and prosperous #Nowruz to all who celebrate this tradition across the world. As Nowruz also symbolizes rebirth, may this year serve as an opportunity to refresh our commitments to health, hope, and renewal for all!
At the direction of the President, the U.S. military has taken decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, a US-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization.
My thoughts on the successful Baghdadi operation in tomorrow’s @washingtonpost. A landmark day for the United States and the civilized world that could not have happened absent our Syrian Kurdish partners. https://t.co/bZEUQWDNzy
The death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is great news for the United States of America and the entire civilized world. Congratulations to our Special Forces and intelligence analysts who put this raid together. Painstaking, dangerous, heroic work. Justice done. 🇺🇸
This Tweet speaks to dangerous and incoherent policy:
* US troops are not “going home”. They’re going to Iraq to manage a resurgent ISIS that we enable by abruptly leaving Syria.
* “New areas aren’t “being resettled w/Kurds.” Kurds are being forced out of traditional areas.
Congratulations to our old friend and now newly elected President of the Republic of #Iraq@BarhamSalih. We are encouraged by the progress in forming a new national government and wish President Salih success in serving all the people of Iraq. 🇺🇸🇮🇶
