CSK handled Dhoni’s retirement and the whole process really poorly.
It would’ve been perfect for Thala to retire on a high after winning the trophy. Instead, the management dragged him along in the name of “grooming Ruturaj Gaikwad,” while shamelessly using Dhoni’s popularity to keep the fans hooked and the stadiums full.
This entire season they kept selling false hope, posting stories about him being fit, travelling with the team, and creating hype before every match, but never gave a clear answer. Even though he had a level-2 injury and wasn’t going to play, they kept the drama alive.
In the last home game, they still brought Dhoni to the Stadium just to keep the fans guessing. It felt unfair. Dhoni deserved to retire peacefully with dignity, but the clout and fan-chasing ruined it.
They did the same thing with Suresh Raina earlier. Now Jadeja has moved to RR, Dhoni isn’t featuring anymore, and the fans have lost all hope. Ruturaj is playing like he’s in a Test match and clearly doesn’t look like captain material. The team feels done and dusted.

Old CSK fans have always kept Dhoni at the centre. From next season, it’s going to be a really tough road for the franchise. Looking back, they could have handled everything so much better instead of dragging it out like this.

Really sad to see.
