❗The outdated legislation around the bathing water designation system is in need of radical reform. Today's proposed changes to regulations from the government impact communities all around the UK who are applying for designation as a means to reclaim their wild waters from profiteering polluters.
A glaring omission in the new regulations is the monitoring of emerging pollutants, like PFAS, which are harmful to human health and the environment.
The reform of the regulations must set the course for all waterways that are used recreationally to be designated so that monitoring and transparency are high on the agenda. They must consider all types of water users, including kayakers, paddleboarders, swimmers, surfers and all those who enjoy being in and around blue spaces. 🏄🚣🏊 This is a must if we are to navigate our way out of the dirty waters of the sewage scandal.
This is our opportunity to speak up and protect our wild waters. We'll be mobilising the full weight of the #EndSewagePollution movement to respond to the government and ensure they deliver regulations that will clean up our rivers, lakes and seas for good.

It's the same story for our lakes, rivers and seas. And we demand change, now. ✊ #EndSewagePollution
United Utilities have been illegally dumping sewage into Windermere for years, according to a new BBC investigation. Not only that, but they have been purposefully attempting to deceive us. We're pissed off. United Utilities insiders told the BBC:
"We would have been aware of the issue – it would have flagged up on flow and spill reports. I’m not surprised we haven’t reported it," one said.
"We work on a risk management basis and we’ll have judged the risk of the EA finding out and understanding the permit breach would be minimal as they are under-resourced and incompetent."
That makes this previous statement a load of 💩💩💩: "We’re committed to making the step change people want to see and to continue to build on the improvements and investment made so far in how we treat wastewater and reducing the number of times storm overflow pipes operate during times of heavy rainfall."
It's all smoke and mirrors. A game to them. But we, the public and other campaigners aren't fooled. And this is our message:
United Utilities, Windemere is NOT your sewer.✊ Share and tag in @unitedutilities if you agree.
