When Democrats wanted to eliminate the filibuster in 2022, I stood my ground because I understood the consequences of turning the Senate into a glorified House with simple majority rule. Senator John Cornyn said of Democrats at the time: “They'll soon find themselves rueing the day their party broke the Senate.”
The filibuster exists to make both sides work together and produce good legislation that can withstand the test of time. Eliminating the filibuster would consolidate even more power into the hands of the majority party’s leadership — and take power away from the minority and everyday Americans.
When I was a U.S. Senator, there was not another person more committed to keeping the filibuster than Senator John Cornyn. He understood the incredible political pressure I faced from my former party to get rid of the filibuster and give Democrats complete power — and at the time, he understood why neither party should take our country past this point of no return.
The filibuster — the soul of the Senate — has preserved the Senate’s role for nearly 250 years as the institution that cools passions, protects minority voices, and demands consensus. America was built on institutions designed to resist political convenience, not surrender to it.
It’s deeply disappointing to see that Senator Cornyn is now willing to scrap the very rule he once praised and personally thanked me for defending. These extreme election-year politics that put party power over everything else are why Americans are sick and tired of the duopoly of the two-party system of Democrats and Republicans.
Manchin told @WSJ Cornyn personally begged him to vote to preserve the filibuster when Dems were in power.
“He said, ‘Joe…you get rid of this filibuster and I guarantee you it’ll ruin the Senate. It’ll ruin the way we do business here," Manchin recalled.

Ironically, Cornyn warned about nuking filibuster when Dems wanted to do it to pass their national voting changes:
“Liberal activists may like the idea of nuking the filibuster today, but they’ll soon find themselves ruing the day their party broke the Senate."
“In the Democratic Party, if you can’t vote your conscience anymore, you either have to fall in line or your colleagues will make every effort to try to kick you out.” https://t.co/0s4uOI3mmF
Sen Cornyn puts his hand in my camera as I ask abt the filibuster, tells me to “go away”
Q: You previously said that nuking the filibuster would be taking a wrecking ball to Senate rules, is that no longer true?
Cornyn: I said I’d be open to reforms. (1/2)
CORNYN has a new op ed saying the SAVE America Act is more important than the filibuster.
“For many years, I believed that if the US Senate scrapped the filibuster, Texas and our nation would stand to lose more than we would gain.
“My fellow conservatives and I have proudly used the 60-vote threshold to protect the country from all sorts of bad ideas and dangerous policies.
But when the reality on the ground changes, leaders must take stock and adapt.
“Today, Democrats are weaponizing the Senate’s rules to block the SAVE America Act, defund the Department of Homeland Security and hurt the American people — all to spite President Donald Trump.”

Well, what do you know?
*76%* of Texas school voucher applications come from families whose children are not enrolled in public schools. Less than 1% of public and charter school families have applied for vouchers.
It's straight up welfare for the wealthy #txlege
There's nothing like the final days of a Texas primary: Candidates barnstorming the Great State, desperate attacks, poll greeters cussed out, police reports, divorce proceedings, DUI arrests, porn addiction revelations, murder allegations, signs vandalized, screwy polling, etc
Okay so,
1) an American citizen exercises his First Amendment right to peaceably assemble and his Second Amendment right to bear arms, out of apparent concern that a tyrannical federal government is violating basic protections afforded under the Constitution
2) after coming to the aid of an unarmed woman who's been shoved to the ground by a masked federal agent, the citizen -- impaired by pepper spray, holding nothing but a cell phone -- is dragged to the ground by a group of other masked agents
3) during the scuffle, shortly after one masked agent removes the weapon from the restrained citizen's person, several other masked agents open fire, unloading 10 shots from close range and killing the unarmed citizen
4) despite video evidence, a spokesman for the federal government says the citizen approached agents with a gun, provoked a violent confrontation, and planned to "massacre" law enforcement
You really want to defend this? Go ahead. Just know, you look like an absolute fool.
