Currently, SCAI has successfully launched and completed its lockup, and the entire project is truly starting.

But this leaves a question: What exactly is SCAI?

According to our official statement, SCAI is a decentralized storage platform based on AI... but it’s more than that. SCAI is a special story.

Although I’m not an expert storyteller, I’ll get to the point as quickly as possible.

SCAI originated as a product incubated within the @SciHubFans community.

The SciHub community started by a very dangers move: its community token, $scihub, was not issued by SciHub’s founder, Alexandra Elbakyan (Alex), but she accepted a 20% donation from the community and posted the token’s contract address on the official website.

The community was ecstatic, and the price skyrocketed ($scihub reached a peak market cap of $70M), believing this marked the beginning of a new story transitioning from Web2 open academia to Web3 scientific research.

The SciHub community rose to fame thanks to the on-chain frenzy and its association with SciHub, attracting a unique people—but thinking long-term and staying true to the community’s original goal: building a decentralized ecosystem serving scholars.

Web2 was fine—SciHub had stood strong for over a decade—but what about Web3? Beyond the donation to Alex using a Solana meme token, there seemed to be little connection to Web3.

Thus, SCAI was born. Developers from @WTFAcademy_and other community volunteers began building a platform based on AI and decentralized technology, taking SciHub a step further:

- It’s not just about open access to academic content; it uses decentralized storage to ensure data accessibility and censorship resistance (all thanks to the selfless help of @irys_xyz).
- It’s not just a database but a knowledge base, where all papers can be retrieved via vectorized data, and each paper has a corresponding AI Agent for real-time analysis and reading assistance.

This was no easy task. When we completed the SCAI prototype, we were all thrilled. However, setbacks followed:

- Due to ideological differences, SciHub’s CTO team split, causing community-wide conflict, with many choosing to leave.
- As the market turned bearish, all DeSci-related tokens, including $scihub, entered a six-month decline.
- Alex expressed strong disapproval of SCAI and some of our developers, though we don’t know why.

Ultimately, in June, Alex abandoned the community, selling off most of her tokens and issuing her “official” token. According to her, the community token, not issued by her, couldn’t sustain its price; meanwhile, buying her official token should be seen as a personal donation to her. At the same time, $scihub’s price plummeted by over 99%.

In any case, the SciHub community was abandoned. Perhaps we were never truly seen by this world-renowned figure. When the community fell, morale was low, and many key members who once led us left quietly.

But SCAI’s story began. @DeSAI_xyz, @irys_xyz, and @SolanaDeSci stepped into help without asking for anything in return. This made us realize that DeSci is a big family. Many projects have faced their own winters—some vanished, but others survived resiliently. At the same time, Friends were willing to lend us a hand.

We engaged deeply with many DeSci projects and ecosystems, including @dlifexyz, @trolpumpscience, and @Cosci_io. This led us to reflect: the open academia we initially pursued was just a small part of systemic issues in research. Our vision expanded, and we gradually saw the real problems in the industry.

This was SCAI’s true rebirth. We recognized the roots of injustice in scholar services, the flaws in research paradigms, the difference between open science and free science, and why Web3 is indispensable—knowledge’s value must remain in our hands, not be taken by others.

So:

SCAI is a decentralized platform serving high-quality data and scientific knowledge. Our goal is to build an ecosystem where experts from various fields can exchange or trade their data and knowledge, creating a complete Data-Fi ecosystem for high-quality knowledge and data.

We achieve this through two technologies: AI, which quickly organizes data into knowledge, and decentralized storage, which enables open data while ensuring data authentication.

Currently, SCAI provides comprehensive scholar services, but in the future, we will gradually transition to data services, ultimately driving a transformation in research paradigms.

This is SCAI—a story of a group of idealistic people who, after enduring the heaviest blows, chose to keep moving forward.

It doesn’t matter whether you believe or doubt us. At this moment, #SCAI is still moving.

但是这里还留下了一个问题，SCAI到底是什么？

要是按照我们官方的说法，SCAI是一个基于AI的去中心化存储 .. 不止如此，SCAI是一个特别的故事。

虽然我不是一个讲故事的专家，但我会尽快告诉你重点。

SCAI的前身是 @SciHubFans 社区当中孵化的一款产品。

Scihub社区是一个很微妙的东西，因为社区代币，$scihub，不是由scihub创始人Alexandra Elbakyan（Alex）发行的，但是她接受了社区20%的捐赠，并且将代币的CA发到了官网上。

社区一片欢腾，价格飞涨（$scihub当时最高达到了70M的市值），认为这开创了一个从Web2开放学术到Web3科研的全新故事。

Scihub社区靠着当时链上热潮以及和Scihub的关联一战成名，它吸引了一部分特殊的人 - 它们不只是为了赚钱而来，它们想的更长远，也更加忠实于社区本来的目标：打造一个去中心化的，服务学者的生态。

Web2没问题，因为Sci-hub已经屹立了十余年 - 但是web3呢？除了给Alex的捐赠使用了Solana的Meme Token，其他部分看起来和Web3都没有什么关系。

于是SCAI诞生了，一些来自 @WTFAcademy_ 的技术人员，和其他社区的志愿者们，开始构建一个基于AI以及去中心化技术的平台，它在Sci-hub的基础上更进了一步：

- 它不只是开放学术内容获取，它采用了去中心化存储，确保数据的可达性和抗审查性（这一切都需要感谢 @irys_xyz 的无私帮助）
- 它不只是个数据库，更是一个知识库，其中所有论文都能够通过向量化数据进行检索，同时每篇论文都有对应的AI Agent，能够实时分析和辅助阅读。

这不是一个容易的工作，当我们完成SCAI的原型时，我们所有人都非常激动，然而，打击接踵而至：

- 因为理念分歧，Scihub的CTO团队分裂了，并造成了社区整体的对抗，许多人选择出走。
- 由于市场走熊，所有Desci有关的币都开始了长达半年的阴跌，Scihub也不能例外。
- Alex对SCAI，以及我们的几位技术人员非常反感，虽然我们不知道原因。

这也是SCAI真正的重生，我们认识到了学者服务中存在不公正的根源，看到了科研范式的缺陷，看到了开放科学与免费科学的区别，更意识到了Web3为何是不可或缺的 - 知识的价值，需要掌握在我们自己手中，而不是被别人剥夺。

所以：

SCAI是一个去中心化的，针对高质量数据和科学知识的服务平台。我们的目标是打造一个生态，让各个领域的专家能够交换或者交易它们的数据和知识，打造一个完整的，针对高质量知识和数据的Data-fi生态。

我们完成这个目标，依赖两个技术，AI - 它能够将数据快速整理为知识；去中心化存储 - 它能够实现数据开放的同时，做到数据鉴权。

目前SCAI拥有完整的学者服务，但是未来我们会逐渐过渡到数据服务，最终推动科研范式进行改变。

这就是SCAI，他是一群怀有理想的人，在经受了最沉重的打击后，依然选择继续前行的故事。

这无关你选择相信还是怀疑，此时此刻，#SCAI 还在前进。

The paper sharing system so far so good, as you can upload an DOI and paper for everyone via SCAI BOX [Science Literature], but it can be more useful if user can just upload other rich text in Irys.

So we add a new upload session, you can upload nearly all kind of rich text (including markdown, html, etc) to our SCAI BOX. Feel free to enjoy this, and consider it like a scholar [dropbox]

The deep search is a great funciton, that you can have an AI assistant to help you read paper. However it can be annoying if the paper is not in the list.

So for now, you can directly upload the fulltext, if you cannot find the paper, and you have one on your end - feel free to upload and enjoy deep search, while we currently ask no payment at all.
