The Detroit school board is interviewing candidates to fill a vacant seat. The district told me to FOIA to review their applications. After filing a FOIA, the district said it would respond by Aug. 11 — well after the board’s vote to select its new member. https://t.co/0ojo9MN1TT
The district put the candidate’s required survey responses online yesterday evening, but it still has not released the other materials, which include resumes and letters of intent. The board is selecting the new member on Monday.
King is in the same position as many families in MI and across the country. Parents of students with disabilities and those who experience racial discrimination or sexual violence in schools are uncertain of the fate of their complaints.

Sheri King was working with a federal civil rights attorney to get the Detroit school district to pay for tutoring for her son, George Finley Jr. who’s in 7th grade. The regional enforcement office the attorney worked in was shuttered by the Trump administration before there was a resolution, leaving King uncertain of his future education.
