Interestingly, this verse is immediately followed in sequential order about a warning to not grieve the Holy Spirit which fits the emphasis that Scripture has placed on speech throughout the entirety of the Bible.

None of this says the Christian doesn't sin, we definitely do. But willful, repetitive sin should be cause for worry. It's one thing to *struggle* and repent continually against a recurring sin. But it's an entirely more ominous thing to shrug ones shoulders in the face of recurring sin, excuse it, or attempt explain it away. It should unsettle a Christian.
