The NCAA changed how college sports work. For the first time, schools can directly pay athletes out of an annual pool of about 20.5 million dollars tied to revenue sharing and NIL rights. In the old system, almost all of the money had to come from outside collectives and donors.
UConn has committed to fully funding that 20.5 million dollar pool. That is a huge change from where we were. My estimate is that UConn Football NIL was around 500K in 2024 and about 1 million this season, mostly through collectives like Bleed Blue For Good and my D’Amelio Huskies.
Going forward, that number could easily be five times what we have done in the past or more, with the school now driving the commitment instead of just the collectives. That is how you land a Skyler Bell, keep a Cam Edwards and build the best roster we have had in the modern era.
Yes, we will still lose some of our own players in the transfer portal. That is just the reality of college football now. But with this level of NIL commitment, we now have access to and real commitments from four star and potentially five star players who in the past would never have even looked at UConn.
