“I’m not telling you to make the world better I’m just telling you to live in it. Not just to endure it, not just to suffer it, not just to pass through it, but to live in it. To look at it. To take chances. To make your own work and take pride in it."
—Joan Didion
I learnt two things about the subject of child grooming gangs on Monday’s @TheNewsAgents. Firstly, there's no evidence of over-representation of any ethnic group within these gangs. Secondly, some allegations have indeed been ignored because of “cultural sensitivities”. THREAD
"Half the world is composed of people who have something to say and can't, and the other half who have nothing to say and keep on saying it."
~ Robert Frost
MPs just voted on a motion to remove private schools' £1,700,000,000 tax break.
That could pay for free school meals for *all* primary school pupils almost twice over.
But Tory MPs voted it down, choosing to protect elite private schools, not improve opportunities for all kids.
I wish more people understood that if every Tory MP came to power in 2019 on a plan to do Brexit...
...KNOWING the government's own experts said Brexit would make the UK poorer...
That means EVERY SINGLE TORY MP got into power to hurt people.
They are literally ALL bad people.
"Jeremy Hunt was born into military aristocracy, a cousin of the Queen, went to Charterhouse, then Oxford, then into PR: trying to get him to understand the life of an overworked student nurse is like trying to get an Amazonian tree frog to understand the plot of Blade Runner."
Steve Barclay is playing the ‘how can NHS staff live with the harm they’ll be causing by striking?’ card today. He forgets that those staff live daily with the risk government daily exposes them and their patients to because of ministers’ deliberate underfunding of the NHS.
Can we all agree on something?
If you're a politician getting paid over £84,000 plus expenses, for mainly office work...
You don't get to tell nurses on less than £30,000 that they're being paid enough for 12-hour shifts keeping people alive.
