All emergency services are working at the site of a Russian airstrike in Sumy right now. Four guided aerial bombs struck the center of the city, hitting a school building where classes were in session. I thank the teachers and school administration – the children and teachers were in the shelter, and 100 people in total were evacuated in time. There was also damage in the private residential area. As of now, sadly, two people have been reported killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Six people were injured, including three children.
Russian terrorists and simply unhinged scumbags. To strike at children, at schools, at ordinary homes like this. America, Europe, all our partners must not forget that Russia will not stop this madness without real pressure. We expect steps in response to these strikes – and that they will go beyond lip service.
My God.
This is the center of Kyiv. A civilian building, a historic one, built in the 1850s.
Russian terror knows no bounds. They are attacking and killing Ukrainian civilians just because they can.
If Russia is not stopped, it will expand its terror and violence.
Ukrainians are facing increasing civilian attacks, displacement, and strikes on energy and health infrastructure. Give today to help WCK provide meals and food kits to impacted families.
As the attacks on Ukraine persist, so do families’ needs. We're preparing emergency meals as communities are displaced and food kits so families can feed themselves. Give now to support these efforts.
Zelenskyy: "Sometimes it may seem that Ukraine is focused only on war because we speak about weapons, we speak about defence and sanctions against the aggressor. But Ukrainians did not choose this war. We choose not to die, not to lose our country, our families, not to lose our independence, our freedom."
Trump: "I ended 8 wars, and the one that's the toughest is Russia-Ukraine. The two leaders hate each other so much. Hatred is very interesting, war is very interesting, but it's too bad."
He repeats this passage about hatred like a mantra, and a lot has been said about it, but I would like to emphasize that this is a manipulative substitution of concepts.
I don't know what the aggressor’s reasons for killing Ukrainians are, maybe it is hatred.
But you cannot reduce our desire to live, live free in our own country, speak our language, and cherish our culture (instead of being occupied, repressed, re-educated, and in a lot of cases killed) to simple hatred. Ukraine isn't fighting out of hatred, we fight for each other and everything in this world that is dear to us.
(Also, "war is very interesting"??)
How can they justify leaving right now?
Diesel costs just hit an all-time high. Our nation is at war. The bond market is quivering. The urgency of AI regulation has come to a critical moment.
Congress should be working overtime. Instead Speaker Johnson sent them home. All to dodge one uncomfortable vote - much like his maneuvers last year to hold off the Epstein files.
You don't have to be a Democrat to find that disgraceful.
In less than seven weeks, Americans can change all this. 48 days to go.
This is heartbreaking.
More than 1.2 million children lost food assistance over the past year. The real number may be closer to 1.5 million.
What changed was the Big Ugly Bill that Washington Republicans passed last summer, which cut over a trillion dollars from the safety net and buried working families in new paperwork.
So now kids are going hungry over a missing form.
When the food runs out, parents skip meals so their children can eat. That's what the research shows, and it's what every food bank sees.
We are the richest country on earth. We need to feed our kids.

And so here we are. This statement from Trump blows my mind. That a sitting president would not let any renovations to a public building go on unless he gets to first put his name in the said building… What a sad state of affairs. What a tragedy. Actually, how small minded, how narcissistic. Actually
great men, devoted to public service and the public good do not act like this.
It seems that this man will not rest until his name is permanently connected to the name of a great president, whose memory this building was dedicated to. Imagine spending your time and your days focused on this, as everyday Americans struggle with healthcare, gas prices, rent, and food. Imagine spending your days focused on this, while a war rages under your leadership.
Enough said. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Ossoff: As grim as things have been, there really is so much that we can accomplish as a nation once we come back together.
Look, the American people, not just Democrats, are opposed to secret corporate money in politics. The American people, not just Democrats, believe that insurance companies shouldn't be able to deny us the health care that we need. The American people, not just Democrats, want us to take AI seriously and our obligations to govern on behalf of our national security and the security of future generations seriously.
And I hope that the example of these conservative Republican mayors in Georgia backing my campaign gives people some hope that we can come together again as a country and achieve great national things together.
I don’t know what warped logic drove Putin to blow up a stationary Ukrainian locomotive on the Polish border this morning. What we can say for sure is that this is the kind of random and senseless attack Ukrainians are enduring every day - even on civilian railways. So far Putin has been responsible for the deaths of 1700 staff of Ukrzaliznytsia - Ukrainian Railways. They and their daily passengers are absolutely heroic.
When are we going to give them the air defences they need? Why won’t we unfreeze Putin’s cash and give it to Ukraine? There is more than €140 billion in a Belgian bank account - and about £10 billion in London. Britain could show a lead.
The Ukrainians are going to win - that much was clear from the last three days in their wonderful country. But we will get this dreadful war over much faster if we all get serious and give them what they need and deserve.
“Kyiv has essentially become a frontline city.”
@TimothyDSnyder once again visited Ukraine, joining Run for Freedom, a race for the release of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians held in russian captivity.
Our ambassador pointed out the new harsh reality of living in the capital.
This week alone, Russia launched around 2,100 drones against Ukraine – a significant share of them jet-powered “shaheds,” which the Russians are using in an attempt to cripple the economy and destroy people’s lives. The enemy also used nearly 1,700 guided aerial bombs and 78 missiles of various types.
Last night and this morning, energy facilities, Ukrzaliznytsia, businesses, and ordinary residential buildings came under attack. Odesa was attacked with missiles and drones. Recovery efforts are ongoing in many western regions following the overnight strikes. In particular, all necessary services are working near the Polish-Ukrainian border in Volyn, where the Russians deliberately burned a train locomotive and damaged a gas station in a drone strike.
It is precisely to prevent these strikes from spreading further into Europe that Ukrainian men and women fight every day, give their lives, and do not allow the aggression to expand. Russian terrorism is a common threat to many, but it definitely can and must be defeated in Ukraine. Thank you to everyone contributing to the protection of Ukraine’s skies and supporting our people.
On the eve of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, former President George W. Bush visited FDNY Ladder Company 3—the firehouse whose badly damaged rig never returned to service and is now preserved at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
Bush spoke with members about the aftermath of the attacks, his Ground Zero bullhorn speech, his first pitch at Yankee Stadium, and those who united when the city and nation needed them most.
