@jacobadashek @ThomasSGunning, MS4 at @HMHNewJersey SOM, presenting such interesting and thought provoking data about discrepancies in digital literacy in cancer patients! Great work!
Whether abstracts, articles, clinical notes or in conversation, treating patients w/respect when referring to them & their disease fosters respect, dignity & empathy, & recognizes complex factors at play - all essential ingredients for creating meaningful change!
#WordsMatter
Our interventions that use applications and websites may not work for all our patients with cancer - thank you to @ACPIMPhysicians for the chance to present this work from @heatherdv_phd & team!
For me, this @TheLancetPH viewpoint represents the phoenix rising after a period of significant moral distress witnessing inadequate supports for grievers in health systems and in the community during the #mentalhealthcrisis of the past few years. We need to change the system while working within the system. And we can! The transitional #bereavementcare model we propose recognizes that healthcare systems have finite resources but also notes their responsibility to build bridges to and bolster community supports. This includes supporting the development of #compassionatecommunities as well as upskilling a workforce of #griefinformed professionals and #griefspecialists -- for those who need it, the struggle to find accessible, affordable mental health clinicians trained in #evidencebased #griefcare is real.
We aim to bring this model to life and do #allthethings at the #CenterfortheAdvancementofBereavementCare @SylvesterCancer@UMiamiHealth@umiamimedicine . This paper is a call for healthcare institutions to further invest in #bereavement care. By investing in this initiative, @SylvesterCancer is answering this call.
Deeply grateful for the support of @DrSDNimer, @DrFrankJPenedo, #DrDavidLee, and as always, @DrBreitbart, as we carry this work forward.
Blessed and proud to have worked with such an all-star team on this paper: @BillyRosaPhD, @KaileyRoberts22, @LeighADonovan, @drlaurenjbreen, #DrSamarAoun, and @srconnor. Please read more here ➡ https://t.co/mN4kzwQCz4
And let me take this opportunity to express my appreciation and admiration of all those advancing #griefliteracy and #grieftraining (some tagged here - wonderfully, the list is only growing!)!
