But I want to start with something that, for me, is beyond question.

Remco was the strongest rider yesterday.

He raced like a champion, knew how to interpret and manage a complex race, and delivered an extraordinary performance.

As Italy, we tried in every possible way to challenge him.

My respect for him is enormous and has never been in question.

Even in the finale, I raced according to the tactical situation.

Scaroni, my teammate in the national team, was chasing about 30 seconds behind, at least according to the information I was receiving from the race boards. At that moment, I could not start riding against one of my own teammates.

It was a racing decision, consistent with the role I had.

Then there is the photo finish.

The title was decided by a margin of 0.0028 seconds, i.e. 2.8 milliseconds.

I have reviewed the available images hundreds of times and, in the footage where the finish line is visible, I still see a sequence of events that I cannot reconcile with that verdict.

This morning, the commissaires, together with the federation’s technical staff, explained to me how the photo finish works and the criteria used to interpret it.

So I am not asking for another explanation.

I am asking to see the photo finish corresponding exactly to the actual finish line.

I would like to be able to see, unequivocally, the passage of our two wheels at the precise point where, according to the regulations, the finish is determined.

Because if a European title is decided by 2.8 milliseconds, I believe it is legitimate to ask that this very passage be shown with the same level of precision with which the result was determined.

I am not asking for a television replay to replace the photo finish.

I am not questioning Remco’s value as a rider, nor the extraordinary race he rode.

I am asking for something very simple:

to see the photo finish at the actual finish line.

If that image confirms the verdict, there will be nothing more to add.

But until that correspondence is shown to me, for me it remains a question to which I have not yet received an answer."

What Kasia Niewiadoma produced today is out of this world and it can be considered the greatest performance in women’s cycling history.

She completed the legendary Mont Ventoux climb (15.62km, 8.69% average) in 55’22” at 16.93km/h, 1471 VAM, and an insane 5.34 w/kg which is reported here by @eliott_aime: For the comparison Demi Vollering produced 5.17 w/kg.

Last year Pauline Ferrand-Prévot produced 5.04 W/kg for 64:50 on the Col de la Madeleine during stage 8 of the 2025 Tour de France Femmes.

This Niewadoma Ventoux performance in my opinion, also surpasses Vollering’s effort on Mendizorrotz, which was also something out of this world: 6.4 ᵉW/kg for 10:18. But doing 5.3 W/KG for 55 minutes is for me more impressive and it is TOP 1.
