Y dicho esto, creo que una cosa no impide la otra: se puede lamentar su muerte y criticar su forma de entender la montaña.

For decades the pursuit of the world’s fourteen eight-thousanders was measured in years. Then Nimsdai reduced that timeline to months and shattered the limits of what people believed possible. Some of his Records were broken, but something greater also changed: young climbers and ordinary dreamers began to see the impossible as a challenge they could one day face themselves. He is a trendsetter of modern mountaineering who redefined speed, style, and ambition in high-altitude mountaineering.

One of the moments that best captured Nimsdai’s spirit came in 2021, during the historic first winter ascent of K2. He and nine fellow Nepali climbers waited just below the summit, joined together and stepped onto the top as one team while singing Nepal’s national anthem. Nims climbed without supplementary oxygen. It was more than a summit, it was a powerful declaration of Nepali courage, unity and pride that will never be forgotten.

Beyond records and summits, Nims never forgot the people who carried the weight of mountaineering far from the spotlight. He repeatedly recognised the porters and support staff whose strength and sacrifice make Himalayan expeditions possible. The Porter House in Lobuche stands as a lasting expression of that respect. He also revealed to the world the extraordinary skill, dignity, and courage of Nepali climbers, qualities that have too often been overlooked or forgotten in commercial high-altitude expeditions.

Nims lived boldly and dreamed beyond accepted limits. He made the world understand that Nepali climbers were not supporting characters, they were the heroes of their own stories.

Everest Today extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, teammates and everyone whose life he touched. Rest in peace, Nimsdai. ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ!

Una duda para mis hermanos argentinos…

En 2014, Brasil tenía 5 Copas del Mundo, Argentina solo tenía 2 y llevaba 21 años sin ganar un título (desde la Copa América de 1993). Aún así, los aficionados argentinos cantaban por las calles de Brasil el mítico “Brasil, decime qué se siente tener en casa a tu papá”. Todo el rato. A todas horas. Cada segundo del día.

A mí esto siempre me pareció una genialidad. Llamarle “hijo” a un rival, con semejante contexto estadístico adverso, solo se le puede ocurrir a un genio. Hasta yo me uní al cántico en más de una ocasión. Me encantan las escenas surrealistas y esta lo era.

Ahí va la pregunta:

Cómo es posible que alguien que ha cantado eso, en esas circunstancias, se moleste ahora porque en España le recuerden que hace solo diez días le ganaron una final del mundo en la que casi no tocaron el balón?

La pregunta es seria. Ojalá respuestas serias y razonadas.
