Nikki Blackheart is now competing on WWE NXT, becoming the first Dominican woman to sign a WWE contract. Born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, she came up through the independent scene as a former Coastal Championship Wrestling Women’s Champion.

Her signing adds to a growing Dominican presence in women’s wrestling. Marti Belle became the first woman of Dominican descent to compete in WWE when she represented the Dominican Republic in the 2017 Mae Young Classic, and Leila Grey stands as the first Dominican woman in AEW, where she competes as part of Top Flight.

With an estimated 2.4 million people of Dominican origin in the United States, the fan base is there. Imagine a Dominican Republic stable making its entrance to a merengue theme, or a legend like Juan Luis Guerra performing at WrestleMania.
