This Iran fiasco will likely wipe out huge amounts of American prestige and treasure, and reduce our standards of living. We will need a genuine accounting for the leaders across every institution - politics, law, business, banking, academia - who allowed it to happen.
Brendan Carr’s authoritarian warning — that networks risk their broadcasting licenses for Iran war reporting that the government doesn’t like — is outrageous. When the government demands the press become a state mouthpiece under the threat of punishment, something has gone very wrong.
In 2019, Carr said: “Should the government censor speech it doesn’t like? Of course not. The FCC does not have a roving mandate to police speech in the name of the ‘public interest.’” But today, Carr cites the “public interest” to blatantly threaten news outlets because the president doesn’t like their reporting.
Again and again, Carr’s tenure as FCC chairman has been marked by his shameless willingness to bully and threaten our free press. But even by Carr’s standards, today’s hypocrisy is shocking — and dangerous.
The American people demand uncensored news about the men and women serving in our armed forces. Our right to a free press is one of the core American freedoms those in uniform have sworn to support and defend. It is long past time for our government officials to remember their own oaths to uphold the Constitution — starting with the First Amendment.
Historians may conclude that Americans simply got bored with freedom, stability, and prosperity -- the fruits of ordered liberty -- and said, "Let's just burn the whole thing down." An act of national and historic vandalism.
In the final episode of this three-part documentary from @PBS@OpenMindTV@heffnera, Sir @Billbrowder breaks down how corruption, fear, and unchecked power reshape democracies — and why accountability matters now more than ever.

This has little to do with 2020.
With the likelihood of the GOP losing the House in November and the Senate perhaps in play, this is all about what Trump is planning for this year's election.
Calling an election corrupt so you can corrupt an election is quite the trick.
The Trump regime is now aware that they have forever lost popular support and are vulnerable to being indicted and incarcerated for the crimes they’ve committed.
That’s why they are following the next step in the dictator’s rulebook to try and prevent elections.
Don’t let them.
Its not just TikTok shadow banning content critical of ICE. Instagram users are reporting that they cannot share content around the proposed Jan. 30th Minnesota solidarity strike and strike content won't show up in their feeds. This is mass censorship.

Donald Trump is once again weaponizing the FBI and the Justice Department to go after his political opponents and re-litigate an election he lost 6 years ago. Trump is trying to subvert democracy and as governor, I will always have the courage to fight back and stop him.
American tech billionaires are making a calculated bet on fascism.
They believe they can control a dictator in exchange for deregulation and total market dominance.
They don't care about your rights or the constitution. They only care about securing their own power
I’ve covered authoritarian regimes all around the world.
We know how we got here:
1. A Supreme Court that has given the Executive almost unchecked power
2. A broken political party system where the party in power refuses to act as a check on the executive and a leaderless (for now) opposition 3. A federal government that has been gutted of independent levers of power 4. A President who seemingly believes he has total authority to use crushing federal power and is emboldened and enabled by his cabinet.
5. An activated and angry civilian population that has no trust in institutions.
6. The use of federal forces in defiance of the will of states
7. A business and elite class that is largely willing to bear the cost of the chaos.
8. A weakened independent Press and an expanding propaganda network that profits from partisan alliances on the left and right.
.@PamBondi just threatened to kill more Americans if @realDonaldTrump's political opponents don’t turn over their voter data.
Have you Republicans no shred of shame?
At this point Hakeem Jeffries or other House Dems should try to recruit some Rs to switch parties. It would only take a few to flip the majority and they all know they are cooked in the midterms anyway.
This isn't about immigration. It's about a pattern of armed agents of the state shooting first & asking questions later on American streets. If your first instinct in watching these videos is to side with the murderous paramilitaries, you no longer want to live in a free society.
