It's always interesting when a new PM enters Downing Street for the first time even from a purely "stage management" point of view. I can't help but contrast this with the famously chaotic scenes of Maggie Thatcher's arrival on 4th May 1979 which was more akin to a press scrum than a carefully managed event. She just about managed to get the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi out surrounded by police and journalists against the background noise of cheers from supporters and audible jeers from protestors.

Contrast this with Andy Burnham's arrival this morning. A carefully stage-managed event. Polished. Slick. But, to my mind, it speaks to the loss of authenticity and spontaneity in politics, which is now less about public service and more about public relations.
