For about .0002 seconds I thought, what if, come Jan. 20th, Americans stepped back for a moment, had an epiphany and asked “why are we treating each other like this?” and we actually became thee UNITED States of America? And then I read this tweet. Jk.
American voters fucked around — and now they're about to find out. As Steve Bannon admitted post election, Trump will implement the fascist manifesto Project 2025. The U.S. is about to become as cruel, barbaric, medieval and sadistic as any authortarian country in the world. 🥺👇
Nobody is gonna say they prefer higher unemployment to higher inflation largely because the stakes of those opinions are hard to conceptualize in the abstract. But we have an absolutely ironclad real-world experiment in revealed preferences here and boy does it suck shit.
My other big takeaway is that Democrats in solid blue states and areas should probably run those areas much better because it’s clear that the strategy of “well it doesn’t matter if we aren’t good at our jobs because it’s safe” actually is not true!
The country didn't "lurch right." Trump is on pace to get FEWER votes than he did in 2020. He added no new voters to his cause, despite a larger electorate. He LOST support.
What happened was 15 million Democrats just, disappeared.
Love AOC but no. Sorry. Everyone's going to be pleased as punch about this exact same economy in three months. The leftist material condition thing is washed.
Here's the challenge for the Democratic Party: Missouri voted for a $15 minimum wage, paid sick leave, and abortion rights & Democrats cannot compete there at all. Why? The answer to that is the road to a comeback.
People expressed surprise that not only did Josh Stein win in North Carolina, but so did Jeff Jackson. And as somebody who saw his TikToks in my feed constantly and recognized him as possibly the only consistent Dem pol to use that app well, it didn’t surprise me at all.
