I was always firmly convinced it was pronounced as "An-kuh-neen" as well. Yet it wasn't only because of that "An Coinín" Irish etymology assumption (with which I personally totally agree). I also thought it was because the writers decided to call Astarion _uncunning_ as a pun. xD

I’d thought the name was pronounced with a “Kuh” sound.

Astarion’s writer is Irish and maybe used the Gaelic language as inspiration.

So it’s possible that Ancunín is derived from “coinín bán” (kun-yeen bahn), which in Gaelic means “White Rabbit”.

Bán coinín ➡️ Ancunín.
