Can't we just have John Major back as PM? Not even on behalf of a political party. Just as someone really sensible and reliable. I don't want soundbite politics. I want someone experienced and expert, who's not interested in popularity, who isn't courting the media, and who just wants to sit at their desk and get the damned job done. Give me someone who doesn't particulalry "want" the job. They just understand that someone's got to it, and that person needs to be qualified.

We tried state education. I pushed for change. Made complaints. Approached the school numerous times. The culture of working hard being needy and resulting in bullying nearly destroyed my daughter. The private sector wasn’t a choice. It was the only route left. It’s the state sector that needs change, as you’ve said.
Sir John Major makes the essential point. Parents who send children to private school save the state money.
Labour’s tax on them has failed. Now the state has 2,000 fewer teachers than when Conservatives left office.
So we will reverse this futile, vindictive policy.
I was at a school speech day today, and the headmaster quoted Billie Jean King saying, 'pressure is a privilege'. I hadn't hear that before. It gave me an instant reset for a piece of work I've been fighting with. Sometimes you hear a few words that change everything. Anyone else got a favourite quote that made a powerful difference?
Sir John Major throws shade on the new prime minister in waiting. "Mr Burnham has had great success, I'm told, with buses," he says. "A little different from dealing with Xi, Putin, Trump, Macron, Merz."
