Arunachal Pradesh needs the Frontier Highway & dams (for hydro, pumped hydro & flood mitigation). Without transport & power there won't be any economic development. Or defence. Or tourism. Or advanced agriculture.
- Those imbeciles who blindly say no to basic development just because "aww nature" should be deprived of all modern amenities. Such entitlement should be a crime. You can't build a single shed without causing ecological problems, go live in thatched huts or caves instead of 5 star hotels under AC then. Biblical levels of hypocrisy.
- Obviously overdevelopment of fragile areas is bad. The best India can and should do is prioritize. We've built too much in some areas and nothing in others. Time to build where there's nothing currently.
India ๐ฎ๐ณ has to make more pragmatic, risky decisions regarding Myanmar ๐ฒ๐ฒ imo.
While ๐ฎ๐ณ might be engaging with Kachin (KIA) regarding rare earths, the flagship Kaladan project remains stalled:
Kaladan corridor in brief:
- Caego taken from Zorinpui ๐ฎ๐ณ to Paletwa ๐ฒ๐ฒ by road. Cargo shifts to Kaladan river barges. Taken to Sittwe port operated by ๐ฎ๐ณ.
- Road completed till border. Land cleared in ๐ฒ๐ฒ stretch but not built. Jetty at Paletwa is ready.
Now the fun part:
- ๐ฎ๐ณ border is with Chin state of ๐ฒ๐ฒ
- Paletwa is also in Chin. But Sittwe is in Rakhine state.
- Rakhine focused Arakan Army (AA) currently controls the entire stretch till ๐ฎ๐ณ border, including Paletwa & other stretches in Chin areas. Paletwa is now considered by AA to be a district of Arakan state.
- AA offensive has captured all of Rakhine but Sittwe, Chinese port-SEZ Kyaukpyu & the island of Munaung. Their offensive appears to have stalled, mostly.
- AA is interested in legitimacy & has not harmed Kaladan or the Chinese investments.
The main strategic objectives of ๐ฎ๐ณ are stability & access to NE states. We don't want the myriad insurgent groups in ๐ฎ๐ณ as well as ๐ฒ๐ฒ to destabilize the area.
However, ground reality also includes:
- Tatmadaw has continued to leverage anti-India groups for its own goals against the resistance.
- Tatmadaw control over ๐ฒ๐ฒ is not for the benefit of their people & is not necessarily in ๐ฎ๐ณ interest either. ๐ฒ๐ฒ has been troubled for decades thanks to them. ๐ฎ๐ณ needs stability across the border here for development & access.
- ๐ฎ๐ณ is building a border fence along the ๐ฒ๐ฒ border & seeking to settle minor disputes. Atleast the need for a fence was realized after decades, phew. FMR can't happen when there's a rather never ending war on the other side.
- Even if the Tatmadaw miraculously gives up, the dozens of EAOs & groups in ๐ฒ๐ฒ will keep it a very conflict ridden / unstable nation.
What can ๐ฎ๐ณ realistically achieve here?
- Fence, being realized
- Strikes against anti-India insurgents, being done on a need basis
- Rare earths, being explored
- Engage with EAOs, being done but can improve more. If ๐จ๐ณ can have deep ties with ๐ฒ๐ฒ EAOs along its border, why can't ๐ฎ๐ณ? Imo Tatmadaw has proven itself uninterested/unable to truly uproot anti-Indian groups. Shouldn't that be the bare minimum expected froma neighboring "government"? The larger EAOs are not exactly against ๐ฎ๐ณ, perhaps they will do better job against these fringe anti-India groups of supported & trusted by ๐ฎ๐ณ. And they can use that support.
- Kaladan: Now ๐ฎ๐ณ has engaged with AA but little progress on the ground. Can ๐ฎ๐ณ & AA do something more here? AA offers NE a link to the Bay of Bengal, almost all of it under their control.
- This is not just about Kaladan, access is just one part of our core needs. Development of the border areas in ๐ฒ๐ฒ also means stability for ๐ฎ๐ณ. Tatmadaw has been given enough chances. Perhaps we can see if atleast AA, if not other groups, can prove to be better partners. Perhaps realistic decisions regarding the sovereignty of ๐ฒ๐ฒ or atleast Tatmadaw's monopoly over parts of it can be made.
On Pakistan.
The rule (role) in proxy further strengthened.
Incumbent PM & DM are useful 'tools'. Will be the fall guys if things go awry.
Power now comprehensively in hands of the Pakistani Armed Forces in a more overt (for the establishment there anyway) way.
Rearm, re-equip while salvaging the "image" - charade of "victory" reinforced.
A deflection with IK the possible bogey to divert the attention .... action against him will be a calculated move to further consolidate power. (Pakistan Supreme Court ruling allowing Military Courts to try Civilians was Step 1; action against IK may lead to civil protests - martial law?)
Will allow PA to get a breather as it lacks the ability to undertake a military action over IWT. Deflect citizens' attention. But this is a temporary move.
Interesting times.
On Kangladesh.
Chief Adviser remains a tool for US, China, Pakistan in varying capacities. Mutually beneficial in short term.
Entry of US into Bangladesh, while aimed at checking China primarily, plays into longer strategic calculus of keeping India in check too. Intervening on Pakistan's behalf (by US) is a further pointer. Have always said that after China, India is next.
For China -
Munir is, for all practical purposes, beholden to US. CPEC is a suspect for China now. China will try to stymie the losses here by military hardware diplomacy.
Bangladesh is a short investment to add a pressure point on India. Should India show a softer stand to China, they will dump it quickly. They have a hold, for now, in Myanmar.
Takeaways:
India needs to up its domestic game - production, manufacturing & tech needs to be focused on. Indigenous & self reliance can not be mere slogans now.
Mobilization of national resources in a major way for strengthening basic architecture of society & economy is of utmost urgency.
Action against aliens & illegals, must be done now.
Interesting, but risky times ahead
It is okay. Your flight has a block time. Lands within the appointed time. In a country where a Pax pushes past the operating Captains in a rush to board aircraft as if Gold Medal is to be won, something needs to be done keeping in view the office (not a person).
Boarding on AI 882 AMD-DEL is delayed by 20 minutes because Supreme Court Judge Vipul Pancholi & wife had to be VIP boarded first. They walk in with a posse of 6 guards + 3 AI staffers. Is this the VIP culture that Indiaโs judiciary advocates? @MLJ_GoI ?
#VIPculture ๐จ#lalbatti
With the acknowledgement that the Offr concerned should focus exclusively on his remit, the Chinese still have that concept of trying to deny India a breakthrough as, else, if achieved, India will be able to rapidly change the situation in the concerned sector & consolidate.
I remember reading an article written by a Chinese military officer (perhaps a Border Defence Regiment Commander) about his time serving on Indo-Tibet border in the eastern sector, perhaps near Bhutan or Arunachal. Time period should be around 2000s or early 90s.
The base he was commanding had a simple mandate to hold any Indian advance for 30 minutes. If Indian forces advanced past him in 29:59 minutes, he'd be considered a failure and treated accordingly. If he held on for 30 minutes or more, then he'd be a celebrated war hero.
Now our senior para-military commanders are singing the same tune as him. Copium of drones and Ukraine war added for extra flavour too. How fortunes change in such a short time.๐
All the time we are told how the war in Ukraine is "unprovoked"
But then i see this video from early 2014, were Ukrainian soldiers, fully supported by the CIA, are firing at homes in Eastern Ukraine, creating chaos in the region........
@dakuurukhasb28@sidhant Nothing like that.
Only we are foolish enough to concentrate on one aspect at a time.
80 crores to be fed, laadli behena etc issue.
@slayer50766 Not so. His remit is limited to ensuring his organization's task of guarding the border, is carried out to the best of his capabilities. Not sing away to glory about Chinese capabilities .
@dgurpreet Law is very clear. Notwithstanding any clause of Constitution with respect to Fundamental Rights, reasonable restrictions can be imposed if the actions may result in acts disruptive in nature and affecting public order & rights of fellow citizens. Funny how that works
@AdithyaKM_ Consolidation is indeed needed to streamline & enhance effectiveness. Especially in the re-arranged global security landscape, the opportunities are ours to lose.
Make a Civil Services cadre with a very big caveat - eligibility only for those who have served minimum 5 years in Military Services & other professional services with recognized institutions (power to recognize such institutions to be decided by GoI) subject to military laws ๐
