The genocides of Armenian, Assyrian, and Greek Christians under the Ottoman Empire are widely known, but the Genocide of the Maronite Christians of Mount Lebanon during the broader persecution of Christians under Ottoman rule remains far less remembered. Some scholars consider the policies that led to the Great Famine of Mount Lebanon to have been part of the wider Ottoman Christian genocide. 🕊️💔

Kafno—meaning "hunger" in Syriac—was not just a word, but a heartbreaking reality. Thousands of families were left without food, protection, or hope. 🥀❤️‍🩹

During the Great Famine of Mount Lebanon (1915–1918), under Ottoman rule and amid wartime blockade and devastation, countless Maronite Christians endured starvation, disease, and unimaginable suffering. Entire villages were devastated, and many perished from hunger. 💔🥀🕯️

With no other choice, thousands fled their homeland, seeking safety and a new beginning in North and South America. 🌍❤️ Among them were the ancestors of Carlos Slim Helú, who rebuilt their lives in Mexico. Generations later, Carlos Slim became the world's richest person in 2010 and remained so in 2011 and 2012. 🇱🇧➡️🇲🇽❤️

A video has emerged showing the alleged assault on Fr. Antonious Zaher, 61 years old and a heart-stent patient, Priest of the Virgin Mary and St. Shenouda Church, on Thursday, July 9, 2026 near Manshiyat Al-Tahrir Street in the Ain Shams District.

The alleged assailants were three Muslim women identified as: Dalia Abdel Rahman and her two daughters Dina and Reem. The women physically assaulted Fr. Antonious with hands and wooden sticks and damaged his vehicle. The situation nearly escalated into major sectarian unrest leading to police intervention. A police investigations officer serving at the same police station, and is said to be the fiance of one of the daughters, had Fr. Antonious detained and referred to the Ain Shams Prosecution Office the next day, despite his injuries, under Case No. 13898 of 2026 (Ain Shams Misdemeanors).

The officer insisted to transport Fr. Antonious in a prisoner transport vehicle, but community members intervened and prevented what they considered to be deliberate humiliation.

Despite Fr. Antonious’ injuries, the women were released without charges.
Fr. Antonious is the second priest to be attacked in Egypt in less than a week. Pray for our priests and support Coptic Solidarity.

Her charred body was burned inside a truck tire and dumped in the desert between Karaj and Qazvin.

This is the true barbarity of the Islamic Regime.

This story from 2009 has been buried for too long.
