In my latest #TharoorThink column in the @IndianExpress, I discuss the government’s mishandling of the student protests this week and demand an urgent course correction. Our students should not be battered and bruised in the streets before their voices can be heard in Parliament.

🛑 Imagine chasing a dream… only to be punished for where you live.
You spend months preparing.
You carefully select your top 4 preferred centers.
And yet, you're sent 300–400 km away to a completely unfamiliar city.
Scary? Unfair?
That’s what thousands of CSIR NET aspirants are facing right now.
The 28th July exam has turned into a nightmare.
Students are being allotted random cities, far from home, far from support.
Some heartbreaking messages I've received:
📩 “Sir, I have a toddler. How do I travel 400 km?”
📩 “I can’t afford a hotel and travel but this is my last chance”
This isn’t just travel trouble.
It’s mental, emotional, and financial stress, before the exam even begins.
Earlier, CSIR NET was held over 3 days.
Now it’s squeezed into one, leading to centre shortages and chaos.
And at the root of it all?
One single testing agency, NTA.
Handling 15+ national exams for a country of over 140 crore people.
Does this make sense anymore?
Here’s what students actually need:
• More independent testing agencies
• Exam centres within a 100 km radius
• State universities and colleges as local centres
• Clear, timely communication from authorities
📢 To Dharmendra Pradhan MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA — this isn’t a minor glitch.
This is a failure that’s hurting thousands of young futures.
👇 If you or someone you know is facing this, share your story.
Let’s speak up together.
Let’s demand #FairCentresForCSIRNET.
