The DOT expresses deep sorrow over the untimely demise of Mr. Bijay Ghimire in the Khumbu Icefall area of Mt. Everest. The first Everest summiteer from the Dalit community, his contribution to Nepal’s mountaineering will always be remembered. Condolences to the bereaved family!

An unidentified, age-old body was recently found in the Khumbu Icefall on Mount Everest. The DOT, in coordination with key stakeholders, has initiated dignified recovery, postmortem, identification & DNA profiling, with a firm commitment to reunite the deceased with their family.

DOT requests all trekking agencies and liaison officers to strictly comply with prevailing mountaineering regulations as unauthorized overnight stay of non-entitled persons at expedition base camps are prohibited. Compliance is mandatory; violations will invite legal action!
