Hello Trees is a series of books about trees for little explorers (and their grown ups) aged 4-7 who love getting outdoors and learning about our world
@BBCr4today My favourite avenue was planted for George V jubilee in 1935: alternating red and white cherry and crab apple trees to commemorate the Wars of the Roses' 2nd Battle of St Albans fought in 1461 over this very land. What a gift! Spectacular! Pure joy!
What's outdoors: ash tree flowers. Some ash trees bear male flowers and some bear female flowers. It is fun to take a closer look. For a discovery sheet see - https://t.co/acX6jR6i8O
What to look for outdoors: blackthorn blossom appears startlingly early - and thank goodness it does because it is crucial food for solitary bees that emerge early from hibernation. Rewards a close-up look. - https://t.co/ck9T5RqKx5
What to look for outdoors: everyone's favourite, male pussywillow catkins are emerging, silky and silvery right now, but soon to be fluffy bundles of yellow, a magnet for early solitary bees. - https://t.co/iUkH859uXt
What to look for and do outdoors: tree bark vs skin. Bark rubbing gets you outdoors and gets you looking, feeling and thinking about bark as a wildlife habitat and the jobs it does for the tree - https://t.co/ngzIZKl6gf
This week, it is fun to look outdoors for oak buds. What do you think is inside the buds? And how do you think oak branches become 'all knees and elbows'? - https://t.co/HjX7wsFHVg
Want to look for interesting things outdoors this week? See if you can spot ash trees. Some of them have 'keys'! All have easily identifiable buds. Enjoy the fun discovery sheet right now - https://t.co/xFNlGUYNBp
Take a torch amongst trees at dusk. Right now, male winter moths are fluttering around flightless females crawling up the bark - https://t.co/FqRSMcT7Id
