a series of works by queer artists that feel like something will byers could have made too:
in rare cases, will steps away from realism. he often paints, and as his work gradually gains recognition, more and more of it is selected for exhibitions and shown here and there in +
@spookeart yeah, for sure! like they're both sort of artistic types, reserved, in touch with their emotions, but Will is the sun while Reggie is the moon (and they would DEFINITELY vent to each other about Mike and James😭)
as an educator who works in a writing center, i firmly believe that AI usage stems from fear. people who have a total lack of confidence in themselves as writers often use AI. people who do not think their own ideas are good enough use AI. so, they choose the easy way out. 🧵
with the whole ai controversy, can i pls say something? creating isn't easy, be it writing, art or anything. it takes so much time & mental energy to translate your thoughts into a visual format. sometimes, the process is gruelling. but that is what makes it worth it. it's what —
@alwhyrucry yeah, you're right :( i'm definitely not trying to start a witch hunt, i just saw tweets that people wished they knew if they could tell if something was ai, and those are just indicators :( but of course there's no 100% guarantee
your reminder that as much as we hate AI from an artistic lens (scalping people’s hard made creations), AI data centers exacerbate the causes and effects of climate change and are routinely placed in disadvantaged/minority communities due to environmental racism. it is that deep.
if anyone’s thinking about writing on ao3 but don’t feel confident in editing/structuring/putting ideas together - please reach out! English is my main language and i’ve been in academia all my life (much before ai). i can help with beta reading, spell checks, grammar etc. +
btw the environment doesn’t know the difference between a claude prompt asking to translate and to write a fic. ai is damaging to the climate regardless of the reason it’s used. there are other ways to translate fiction, we’ve done it for centuries
okay SO. two things can be true at the same time: using ai to help write your fic is weird (especially untagged and/or with an anti-ai message in the notes) AND this rise in ai fics is 100% related to the consumerist mindset people have around fanworks. and both of these matter.
