Decenas de adolescentes salen corriendo a toda velocidad por las puertas del colegio, gritando, saltando y celebrando como si hubieran ganado una final mundial.

No se están escapando de clases. No hay peligro.

Acaban de terminar el Gaokao (高考), el Examen Nacional de Ingreso a la Universidad más difícil y competitivo del mundo.

Algunos datos que contextualizan su magnitud:

Más de 13 millones de estudiantes lo rinden cada año. Una sola prueba que define tu futuro: la universidad donde entres determina en gran medida tu carrera, salario y estatus social.

Preparación extrema: muchos estudiantes estudian 12-14 horas diarias durante años.

Es tan fuerte que se le llama “la batalla más importante de tu vida”.

Por eso, cuando termina… la liberación es total.

Lágrimas, abrazos, fuegos artificiales y carreras locas por las calles son completamente normales.

Es uno de los rituales más poderosos de la cultura china actual:

el símbolo del esfuerzo colectivo, la meritocracia y la importancia que le dan a la educación.
