If it weren't for a supermarket security guard persuading a woman to make a complaint against Pelicot for up-skirting, his horrific crimes would not have come to light.
While we celebrate the courage of Gisele Pelicot, let's also rethink our approach to 'minor' sex crimes.
âWhen youâre raped there is shame, and itâs not for us to have shame, itâs for them. Itâs true that I hear lots of women, and men, who say youâre very brave. I say itâs not bravery, itâs will and determination to change societyâ
- Gisèle.
What an incredible woman.
"They tell me I am brave. It's not bravery. It's will and determination to change society."
THIS WOMAN, finding the strength to walk in to court every day and face all her rapists, is an absolute ICON.
I've never seen anything like it. Articulate, determined, dignified. â¤ď¸
Weâre proud to be a member of the London Loo Alliance. We want to hear form Londoners about their experiences of finding a public toilet when they are out and about this festive season. Please help us by completing this short survey https://t.co/J2ejZvuyYi #LondonLooSurvey
"Losing a loved one in a preventable way, it certainly compounds your grief... But if nobody learns for it... It makes you feel as if their life meant nothing to the people who let them down."
Merope Mills reflects on campaigning for Martha's Rule after her daughter's death.
Barely a drop of rain in the past week rain and yet Markyate sewage works is still discharging sewage into the #RiverVer - 122 hours since last Thursday and 3000 hours in 2024. Surely the type of incident @OfficeforEP is demanding action over.
Iâm on the 7am train to Newcastle, then to a destination missing from normal passenger timetables for *60 years*: Ashington, on the 18 mile Northumberland Line. Passenger services were axed in 1964: following much hard work, it reopens this Sunday! Thereâs still work to do on some of the intermediate stations for a variety of reasons: and itâs taken lobbying, reports, debates, and hard graft since the first attempts to get this line reopened to passengers in the 1990s.
But we are where we are: and today, a preview trip, is about saying chuffing well done to all those who have made this first phase happen and to see whatâs due to be sorted in the next phase. How I see it is that the folk of Ashington in a few daysâ time will be reconnected to a network that enables travel to the rest of us, to friends and families, work opportunities, days out and trips under the sea to the rest of the world. Those stations arenât just platforms: theyâre portals.
And for the rest of us - get ready to add Ashington and the intermediates along this scenic 18 mile line to your radar: âcos a whole new chunk of Britain is about to be connected and open to me and to you â by those parallel, transformational, twin strips of steel.
A friend recently visited her GP complaining of abdominal pain. They dismissed her concerns for many months.
Eventually she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Stage 4.
The GP apologised. Thankfully friend survived. Not the point.

đ¨BREAKING NEWS// Government green lights M&S Oxford Street demolition proposals. SAVE early comment:
đŁď¸What a missed opportunity! The government has chosen the easy option â business as usual - when it had a real chance to show leadership and ambition on this urgent issue.

Delighted to see @thehappysalmon win for @WeirdInTheWade. Best History podcast. Was a judge on this category and itâs great that an independent podcaster can still win up against the big names and huge companies #britishpodcastawards
That crush at Euston station? I'm not surprised. I tried to go from Euston to Birmingham last week and it was such an appalling journey I took notes on the way. This country is fucked: https://t.co/x2l1SOnSr6
Look how happy death is in this picture by Edward Rowlandson an 18th century artist!
Mondayâs episode of Weird in the Wade is all about resurrection men, like these pictured stealing a body from its grave.
