Shri Arvind Kumar (@arvindtw), Director General, Software Technology Parks of India, at the SAMARTH Incubation Program – Demo Day of Cohort II, highlighted the evolving landscape of India’s startup ecosystem and the growing importance of deep tech innovation.

Key highlights from his address:

➡️ From 2015 onwards, the startup ecosystem witnessed significant growth, largely driven by sectors such as consumer internet, fintech, and SaaS-based solutions.
➡️ Since mid-2023, there has been a notable shift toward deep tech startups, including hardware, advanced technologies, and strategic innovation.
➡️ The Government of India is encouraging innovation in sectors that contribute to strategic independence, such as defence, energy, space, and telecom.
➡️ Investors are increasingly supporting deep tech and hardware startups, evaluating them based on Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), commercialization potential, and long-term innovation capabilities.
➡️ Startups should focus on emerging high-impact sectors, including:
– Semiconductor design
– Industrial applications of AI / enterprise AI
– Energy technologies
➡️ The Government is actively supporting deep tech innovation through initiatives such as AI missions, semiconductor programs, GPU infrastructure, AI labs, and manufacturing initiatives, creating strong opportunities for startups.
