I read the comments and saw lazy Nigerian youths cursing him out. This is the issue I have with Nigerian youths. Zero ambition. Everyone wants a white-collar job.

He is right, and this is very possible. Let me tell you how I bought my first house in Abuja from frying akara and dankali (sweet potato) at Jabi, while my friends were busy relocating from Nigeria. I was 20.

It started as a suffer-head business, one bench, one frying pan, one charcoal stove that liked disturbing me anyhow, especially in the rainy season. Six months later, that bench had grown to a shop with two workers under me. My dankali was moving like fuel during scarcity. Civil servants, corpers, and even a serving Senator were queuing every morning, some calling ahead to reserve their portion.

By month ten, I had saved enough for a plot in Kubwa. By year two, the plot had a full duplex standing on it, roofed, painted, fenced, generator humming nonstop like I owned shares in NNPC.

My guys abroad kept texting, "Oh boy, things are hard o, is the akara business still available?" They were ready to relocate back to Nigeria to start it.

Then somewhere inside the dream, my own house started shaking, and a voice was shouting "up NEPA" so loud it followed me out of sleep.

I opened my eyes and met darkness, no light, no house in Kubwa, just the smell of nothing frying and my neighbour testing his old Tiger generator like it was 5am church service.

Some dreams should come with a warning label, especially the ones a governor gives you before bed.

For educational purposes, before a club considers buying a player, there are several factors they have to consider:

• Transfer fee
• Wages
• How much the player is actually needed

The transfer fee

Victor Osimhen commanded a €75m transfer fee when he joined Galatasaray from Napoli

That means any top club looking to sign him would likely have to spend €100 million or more once you factor in the overall cost of the deal

That's already a major barrier

Second, how many top teams actually need a striker?

If you go through Europe's top five leagues, you will realize that there are hardly any top team without a quality centre forward

Look at some of the biggest clubs:

Real Madrid - Kylian Mbappe
Chelsea - Joao Pedro
Arsenal - Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokores
Bayern Munich - Harry Kane
Manchester United - Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko
Manchester City - Erling Haaland
Liverpool - Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike

The only exception is Barcelona and they are a broke club plus their priority has been Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez

So, from a purely footballing perspective, Osimhen isn't a necessity for most of these clubs

Serie A is also out of the equation for now because of the agreement between Napoli and Galatasaray reportedly preventing Osimhen from being sold to an Italian club until 2027

To his wages

Osimhen's reported earnings at Galatasaray are around €21m per year, aside bonuses and other payments

How many clubs in Europe's top five leagues can comfortably afford that kind of salary?

In England, only three players earn €21m or more
In Spain, five players
In Germany, two players
In Italy, no player
In France, no player

If Osimhen is leaving Galatasaray, he would earn more around €23m to €25m per year

That is a salary most clubs simply won't be willing to pay

Talking about his attitude

Yes, Osimhen has made mistakes just like every other players

Football is full of extremely talented players whose personalities had to be managed by their clubs

Samuel Eto'o, for example, was famously strong willed.

As a youngster, he once left a loan club because he felt he was being played out of position and returned to Real Madrid

Sir Alex Ferguson also had to manage Wayne Rooney's personality and emotions during his time at Manchester United

I am not telling you that bad behaviour should be excused

It simply means that a player's personality doesn't automatically make him unsignable

Clubs have always managed big personalities when the talent and performances justify it

Nigerians are also fond of criticizing their players for social media use

Erling Haaland is extremely active on social media and enjoys his life away from football, yet he continues to perform at the highest level

So, calm down

Osimhen is enjoying his life in Turkey. He is playing football, scoring goals and living his life

When the time comes for him to leave Galatasaray, he will leave

Not every moment has to be about transfers

Let the man enjoy his life

I'm sure one of the facts here shocked you as you didnt know it before. FIFA actually has a pot sum of funds for clubs whose players get injured long term during international duty.

Manchester United, through Manuel Ugarte, are one of the long list of benficiaries this year.

Manchester United had been planning to sell him that summer. Those plans died on the pitch when he incurred an injury during the 2026 World cup about two months ago.

What happened next is where it gets interesting from a legal and financial standpoint. According to the Telegraph, FIFA will cover approximately 80 percent of Ugarte's £150,000 per week salary for the duration of his absence under the FIFA Club Protection Programme.

For a club that was trying to move him on, that is a significant and unexpected financial cushion.

Most people do not know this programme exists. Let me explain what it is, when it started, and what it actually covers.

The Clup Protection Program (CPP) began as a pilot covering UEFA Euro 2012, introduced through a Memorandum of Understanding between the European Club Association and FIFA.

The tension that created it had been building for a decade. Clubs were legally obligated under the FIFA RSTP to release their highest paid players for international duty with zero financial protection if those players returned injured.

In 2002 and 2006, clubs received nothing from FIFA when players were injured on international duty. The conflict between FIFA's demands and FIFA's obligations became untenable. Congress formally approved the programme in Budapest in 2012 and expanded it to cover all men's and women's A national team matches on the FIFA international calendar.

It has been renewed in four year cycles since, with the current version running until the end of 2026.

The mechanics are straightforward-the injury must constitute what FIFA's technical bulletin calls a temporary total disablement, meaning the player is completely unable to play as a direct result of an accidental injury sustained during international duty.

The player must also be absent for a minimum of 28 consecutive days before a claim is triggered. After that threshold is crossed, FIFA compensates the club daily from day one of the absence, not just from day 28.

The compensation is calculated on fixed salary only. Performance bonuses, Champions League appearance bonuses, image rights and National Insurance contributions are all explicitly excluded.

The weekly compensation is capped at the equivalent of £120,000. Ugarte's reported salary is £150,000. The cap explains why FIFA covers approximately 80 percent rather than the full amount. But the real picture for United is more nuanced than the headline suggests.

Once you strip out the bonuses, image rights and employer's National Insurance that the programme does not cover, the actual net relief United receive is closer to 50 percent of his total employment cost for the season, according to detailed analysis by United In Focus. If Ugarte is out for nine months, United receive roughly £4.68 million from FIFA at the weekly cap rate. Some estimates put it closer to £6 million depending on the exact recovery duration.

The source of the funds is FIFA's general commercial revenues, specifically the proceeds from the World Cup cycle. This is not a pot that clubs pay into. FIFA bears the entire cost, funded from the billions generated through broadcast rights, sponsorship and licensing. The programme is administered by an independent third party insurer.

Now stay with me so you don't miss this. The total annual capacity of the CPP across all claims globally is capped at €80 million per year. That figure has not changed since the programme launched in 2012. In a normal year, total claims sit well below that ceiling.

But in a World Cup year, when dozens of players from expensive European clubs are injured on international duty simultaneously, aggregate claims can approach that limit. FIFA's own technical bulletin is explicit about what happens in that scenario.

If total claims in a given year exceed €80 million, payments are made on a pro-rata basis. Every qualifying club receives a proportionally reduced payment rather than their full entitlement. Nobody gets paid in full if the pot runs dry.

That might have shocked you. But this will shock you even more. Of the first 80 CPP claims paid out, 98 percent of all money went to clubs in Europe. Not because African or Asian or South American clubs do not have players injured on international duty.

Because the compensation is salary-indexed, and the highest fixed salaries in world football are overwhelmingly concentrated in the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1.

The programme protects clubs from financial risk. But some argue that it protects some clubs considerably more than others. What do you think?

One reason many Nigerian players struggle to strike a ball cleanly and consistently has nothing to do with skills.

It is the surface.

A clean strike is a highly repeatable movement. The plant foot lands in almost the same position. The ankle locks. The contact point is precise. The body follows through in a predictable way.

That is how technique is built. Repetition.

On a proper grass pitch, a player can spend hours striking through the ball and brushing the grass in exactly the same spot. The turf provides feedback. Every repetition teaches the body what a clean strike feels like.

On many of our pitches, you are not sweeping grass.

You are trying not to kick stones.

The body knows the difference.

Subconsciously, players adjust. The plant foot becomes less certain. The ankle unlocks a fraction earlier. The strike becomes an act of compensation rather than repetition.

Over thousands of repetitions, that difference matters.

You lean back to protect the shin. You learn to survive, not to master.
You adjust, to improvise, to accommodate the surface.

You are not training the mechanics of a clean strike. You are trying not to remove your toes.

Ankles, knees, shins take constant impact every time you play on these brutal fields.

Then poor medical accessibility compounds the problem.

Limited or no physio support, delayed diagnosis, mean many players never fully restore the range of motion needed for a precise strike. They return with a guarded plant foot or a stiffened ankle. The technique never settles.

This is one reason football infrastructure matters more than many people realise.

The pitch is not just where football is played.

The pitch is part of the coach.
