Raw viewership numbers don’t tell the full story. Two extreme outlier games (UGA and PopTart Bowl) and one of their best seasons in recent memory is not a fair comparison. A good way to compare two teams is to show them on a level playing field. UNC games on ESPN where neither team is ranked vs the same of GT:

An interesting, and hopefully fair, way to compare BYU and Utah’s viewership pull:

In ESPN games where neither team is ranked, BYU averages 1.17M viewers to Utah’s 1.01M

Agree generally. But this year specifically, with how bad Utah was, the two had pretty comparable TV opportunities in the regular season. Utah State had 21 games on TV to Utah’s 18, including 2 CBS slots against SDSU. They still needed those two tournament games to beat Utah. I think, if given the same schedule and TV opportunities, Utah likely draws more viewers.

@TheWildUte So in other words Utah’s “brand” was playing against Oregon and USC and, without that, they’re mediocre. BYU’s brand, playing the same teams as Utah, seems to be doing just fine.
