Wow. The Education Department continued garnishing people’s wages *at least* through August 2021, 10 months longer than the agency’s inspector general reported. This literally rendered people homeless. It’s time for @usedgov to stop functioning as a massive predatory bank.
@potus signed the JCLSA on 10/11 and absolutely zero has happened. DOE continues to ignore the 776 of us with FFEL Spousal Consolidation Loans. Been paying for almost 30 years. Allow us to separate or cancel them.@SC_DoUsPart@AdamSMinsky@FLOTUS@NPRCoryTurner@SenWarren
@NPRCoryTurner Congress passed a law requiring DoE to separate FFEL Joint Spousal Consolidated Loans into DLs. And all we've heard from DoE is crickets. Until our JSCLs we've been paying on for we'll over 10yrs are separated we cannot qualify for anything.
@SecCardona@POTUS@MarkWarner Amy chance we can see information or movement on the DOE process to separate JCSL? Or a pause on payments while we are waiting? Or an acknowledgment? Or any indication you remember this was made into a law?
JCSL act signed into law yet no word to borrowers. No equal benefits as other borrowers, & pay both parties portions. If DoE can’t figure out how to fix the mess created, pause pymnts until can so not paying for a loan that isn’t theirs. @SC_DoUsPart@FLOTUS@POTUS@SecCardona
What is the status of IMPLEMENTATION of PL 117-200? So many of us are stuck in limbo waiting on @usedgov and @SecCardona to create the separation process! Please follow the law NOW! @SC_DoUsPart@FLOTUS
@MAD_lines The absolute absence of consumer protections / legal recourse. @usedgov abandoned JCSL loan holders in 2006 leaving us ineligible for all federal relief programs & financially bound to ex spouse's & abusers with no way out.
Yet still no method of separation for joint spousal consolidations. No payment pause for us. I am still left paying my abusive ex spouses loan as a co-signer. I only carried in 5k, him over 20k. I qual for PSLF if I can ever get sep. Find a way! @SC_DoUsPart@usedgov
@AFord525@jpinsk@WSJ@usedgov@jpinsk The point can be made that the reverse truth also applies.
Those affected by the JCLSA have had their whole life's trajectory diminished.
And still, there is no change after a LAW is passed.
This story should be told too. 🙏

Who will be the one to tell this SL Story? Of victims paying Ex spouse's debt for decades, left behind in 2006 only to be ignored by DoE still. Shattered by broken hope despite LAW 117-200.
@60Minutes@DatelineNBC@NPR @sequoiastweets @CNN@SC_DoUsPart https://t.co/puPwE2nJSW
another week @SecCardona@usedgov hasn't paused payments for #jclsa#studentloans and #domesticviolence victims are still being told by servicers to get their abusers on the phone with them to agree to put the accounts into forbearance...
@msnbc_films @blakezeff@latimes@MSNBC Please look into the passage of PL 117-200 — the Joint consolidation loan separation act. Federal dept of education has yet to implement a process to comply with the law! Victims of abuse are still tied to their abusers through these loans! @SC_DoUsPart@SecCardona
@SecCardona Are you fighting to get relief for those of us stuck in spousal consolidation loans?? You should be working to separate them like our law stipulates.
