@mufcjap@Green_Scouser Sometimes when a team gets a new manager it takes a few weeks/months to unpick what they’re doing… enjoy it while it lasts. In the absence of obviously transcendent talent, the only way to attack the league successfully is consistency of coaching and players over several years.
@GraceOnFootball You don’t neccessarily need a great striker or even a striker at all to win international tournaments as both the U21s and multiple World Cup winners prove.
@themagic_tophat all frauds have these types of "sham" justifications circling between co-conspirators. they are likely fortunate more hasn't become public knowledge.
@LukeEdwardsTele Organic advantages exist in any decades old sporting competition. And should. If it weren’t for creation of PL they’d be even more enshrined. NUFC at a huge advantage vs. any club of comparable record on continent. Choices should also have consequence, and do, even for “cartel”.
@jonnyhusband1@John29Curtis I mean, difficult to entirely separate the two, but Spurs at least now in position to maintain a throw enough shit approach. Unlike Villa and Newcastle.
@1972_rickyb@DaveSmith850 Their success not immoral but a lottery win to the extent it coincided with Italia90 boom, SKY, and globalisation in general, but they were savvy enough to maximise opportunity and by the end of 90s their dominance based as much around that economic advantage as anything else.
@TeleFootball@JBurtTelegraph The idea that Guardiola was some innocent bystander without a serious grasp of who or what he was working for is for the birds.
@Carra23 It’s largely about the owners. But you can’t believe Mancini, Soriano, Begiristain, Pep Guardiola or indeed many of the players didn’t have some understanding of what was going on when every fan in the country has known for years it was a “sham”. As you say not a shock.
@TheTimothySteve LFC not without their data models - Spearman etc. reputable and had successes. But the insistence by any big club, not least Liverpool, that player trading and an executive vision trump the football “manager” a non starter. Needs to be coalition of both things and academy.
@donhutch4 Think he could have been ok with Pep at height of Man City’s dominance, but increasingly difficult in current iterations of PL. Liverpool certainly not looking to play that way.
@donhutch4 Needs a system. Leverkeusen played in smaller spaces, ball constantly recycled through him, 3 midfielders behind him, runners around him. None of that at LFC.
@Robbie_OR Co-comms the hardest thing in broadcasting, and he and Neville genuinely awful at it. Truest test of feel and insight for the game and they’re both bloke in the pub bad.
@AnfieldIndex@JNorthcroft@TimesSport The best solution for Wirtz is to play him with the 3, because will allow pressure and control without particular expertise. Means Wirtz can see lots of ball and combine high up. But also, as a consequence, means a forward less. Also antithetical for coach they’ve hired.
@GYMLFC Wirtz and Isak transfers more like Beardsley and Aldridge then fucking Neymar. The issue where it lies is both players had others doing dirty work for them at previous clubs.
