HALF of ball/strikes calls overturned in Spring Training (and Triple-A last year), all the while adding only ~ 1 minute of game time combined…

Sounds like ABS is coming in 2026!

MLB has released their ABS report from Spring Training, via @castrovince. Notably, the percentage of calls overturned was a little more than half, and each challenge only added 13.8 seconds of time to the game.

These models explained roughly 60% of Attendance Metrics in Baseball, so there is still some insight left to be discovered. Perhaps Ballpark Experience and success of neighboring teams have an impact in this regard would be interesting to look into in further analyses.

Looks like the Padres are taking a similar approach to the ‘13 Red Sox by bringing in a bunch of older, good vibes guys to plug and play with. Should be interesting to see if PD can squeeze some more value out of them at the tail ends of their careers!

An interesting tidbit from a Fan Graphs Article earlier this week on why Yainer Diaz has the chance to become an ELITE hitter in ‘25. Diaz DESTROYS meatballs with the likes of some of the best hitters in the game (i.e. Ohtani):

Here’s how Diaz can be potentially take the next step:

👉 Increase his Avg LA (~ 8.9 Degrees) to reduce his high GB Rate (51.2 %)

👉 Cut down the Chase (2nd Percentile- 42.6 %), specifically low and away. As you can see, pitchers bullied him there often and he took the bait:
