Soren Aldaco was 19 (not a minor) when she had top surgery in Texas.
She filed a lawsuit against all of her providers in 2023. She’s since voluntarily dismissed her HRT physician from the lawsuit and the Texas CoA dismissed the appeal against her surgical team just this week.
“Paid for by the U.S. Government”: The Trump administration is airing a taxpayer-funded, pro-Trump ad on Fox News and Newsmax featuring Trump declaring: “America will never be a communist country,” while on-screen text touts the “largest tax cuts in history.”
The White House defended the ads, calling them “public service announcements.”
@Rossco2600@JohnTeufelNYC This is irrelevant. It indicates large donors, but I did not claim there were no large donors. I was disputing the image you shared which is worded to imply that the money going to JVP comes from the same donors who give to pro-Israel groups.
@Rossco2600@JohnTeufelNYC This is a common misunderstanding of donor advised funds! These banks offer a service people can use to donate to organizations of their choice. It’s a kind of weird framework, but everything is reported as coming from the bank even though individuals control their funds.
The belief that schools can provide equality of opportunity in an otherwise inegalitarian society, and that lack of equality of opportunity is the fault of public schools, is fundamentally right-wing and worse, deeply wrong
Our strategies need to be based on the unique conditions we live in. AOC is flawed in many ways, but it does not follow that we should reject her candidacy (the leftmost available option). This is idealism and commandism in their worst forms.
The fact these things are found elsewhere around the world and not here is significant. Any individual reform being insufficient to overturn capitalism does not mean that it should not be pursued. These are thought terminating cliches without historical bases.
She presents nothing more than a charcuterie board of various moderate reforms which are already commonplace in much of the world. Even if these could be achieved, they would not fundamentally alter the class relations of capital, which can only be overthrown wholesale.
@chairmanmeowing I also am not *necessarily* against an IE nationally, just not as an exclusive strategy. I personally am not a fan of the lack of transparency which would come from trying to navigate compliance (the same people can’t run it and talk with the campaign, do we split the NPC?)
This is largely correct, but the legal language of “independent expenditure” (IE) actually introduces many more compliance problems. IEs are a narrow form of political engagement which happens to also provide minimal benefit to DSA. 1/10
The answer has always been, endorse AOC with independent messaging and a fully DSA campaign through an independent expenditure. Anything else not only runs into ideological problems but will be a compliance nightmare. It's what we did for Bernie!
@chairmanmeowing I would describe it as an independent campaign with coordination. It’s neither an “independent expenditure” or “coordinated expenditure” per FEC regulations, which is why I think we need to get away from the legal language which restricts strategy arbitrarily.
@chairmanmeowing Yeah, that’s one of the points considered in the opinion. We could use DSA VAN in coordination with the campaign on turfs. And we can sell our data the campaign if we want, but can’t provide it for free (that would be an in-kind contribution).
the political and legal. I think at this stage in our deliberation, legal prescriptions like this are counter productive and should be eschewed for a greater emphasis on the political content of our engagement. 10/10
Campaign strategies should be developed from the political strategy which we decide upon in order to further it within the legal context we are working under. It is important for form to follow content, but the emphasis placed by some on an IE fails to distinguish between 9/10
